Saying that was his aim isn't saying it was a foregone conclusion. Not like "a walk in the park" or something he could do "blindfolded".
I get that you think Ingebrigtsen’s “a walk in the park” and “blindfolded” are a hight of arrogance, but IMO a judgement of the context clearly says something else: 1 The park thing is a JOKE! Some posters here think he meant the Euros, but why would he when he at the time couldn’t know if Kerr or Wightman would or would not participate also there..?! And more important: Jakob got the question how he thought the (Olympic) champs would turn out when he was so injured that he hardly could run, and he also knew that Kerr had made huge progression -why on earth would he think it would be a walk in the park!? Of course he realised that (especially with Kerr’s glue -to the leaders -back- strategy) and his own injury uncertainty, and the Scot’s progression he would get harder competition than ever…. So it was a joke answer on a question very hard to answer seriously at the time..! And I, among others, got a good laugh… One of the many good things about Jakob!
2. “Blindfolded “: This was not (only) a joke, IMO. -Despite what you seem to think, Jakob (and I) clearly thinks that he in the same indoor 2 mile race would have crushed Kerr (at least with 6.5 sec, and probably more). Kerr was not at all arrogant after setting this 2 mile indoors WR, but some of his followers were, so Jakob clearly needed to tell the truth…(In a fun way, with a fun over doing)…

Kerr got a silver, he's literally "the next guy". 2. Jakob said that he was the pacemaker - and guess what happened? He was the pacemaker, he pulled Kerr/Nugoosy/Cocker to their lifetime bests.
