No great insight on this other than to note that Ollie Hoare dyed his hair an odd color and Nia dyed her hair pink before the games. Both had bad Olympics. Possible sign of things not right.
Yeah, there’s this phenomenon I heard somewhere, where if there’s something in your life that you can’t make better, you channel your frustration into making things different.
Like, if your marriage is struggling and you don’t know what to do about it, maybe you decide to buy a new car. Just to not feel stuck. Just to feel a sense of motion.
Ideally, people have a situation they cannot control, so they channel their desire for action into something harmless. They rearrange the living room. Costs nothing and nobody gets hurt. Changing your hair color sounds harmless as well.
Worse would be, you have a situation you cannot improve, and so you channel your frustration in more drastic ways — have an affair, start day drinking, spend money irresponsibly.
It’s like, people don’t think clearly. “I know what’ll help my marriage, I’ll quit my job” or “I hate my job, why don’t I go buy an RV.”
I’m not saying this is definitely what Hoare and Akins were doing by coloring their hair, but it’s a theory.
