funny how i was mentally strong after a good training block injury free ...
body and mind go hand in hand
but then there is david goggins
I ran 16:21 within 3 years of running from no previous sport. Got into a toxic relationship for 4 years and never beat that time in 6 years, finally starting to get past the trauma, now I'm mentally strong again and doing the kind of workouts I was when I ran my PB. In that relationship my mental energy was drained with fights, anxiety and greif. Always thinking about it during runs, I run so much better now I'm happier.
You have to be a Jakob fan or you are simply not very bright. Kerr hasn't minimised or downplayed his gifts; he has avoided blowing his own trumpet. But puffing your chest out is what you probably think top athletes should do.
You are an idiot if you think you know anything about me. But you prove that every day so it's no surprise.
Your use of "discipline" is someone else's "mental toughness". Discipline is a mental skill.
Well then Kerr is unremarkable. You can think of many other athletes who didn’t punt a season because of getting a bronze medal or didn’t have to be weaned off Chipotle. Where Kerr’s mental toughness stands out to me is he has no “impostor syndrome.” He think he can win or mix it up every time no matter his previous best effort, others credential or his buildup. This is not true of many runners even elite ones. It’s why you have to be high on Laros too based on what we saw last year at Worlds.
You don't understand what he is saying. He isn't comparing himself to people he would never race against but those he does.
Sometimes this is just a function of the day. Sometime Kerr (despite all his mental strength) is going to get beat by another equally talented guy who is having a good day when Kerr might not be on top of his game.
That is sport. It even happens to the very talented. But Kerr is saying that it is his mental approach that is his greatest advantage rather than superior physical talent.
Generally about 40 points above the idiots on these threads.
Typical reply of a narcissistic sociopath.
I know who you are, despite the fact you change user names like your underwear. You are one of the dullest minds on this site. 40 points is being generous to you.

A narcissistic sociopath belittles others when confronted with his inferiority. That's what you do every day, multiple times a day.

It's not what he does. It's all he does. He has nothing else.

You are making the mistake of thinking that mental strength is a specific quality, like muscular calves. It isn't. It involves a variety of skills. Discipline is but one of them - which Kerr undoubtedly has - but it also includes self belief, the ability to think quickly and clearly under pressure, to avoid panicking in difficult situations, to have judgement about issues such as tactics and being able to respond when circumstances change, to be able to overcome fears and doubts, to accurately assess the capacity and mindset of competitors, to know how to exploit one's strengths and protect relative weaknesses, and so on. I would say Kerr has all of that - and many of the best in many different areas of life do. At the top level of sports the mind is decisive more than physical superiority, because the margins between competitors can be so small.
