I don’t get all the vitriol that Tuohy gets. She just finished college, had an injury and had a good race. What am I missing here. Are these Valby or Andrews bots in these Touhy threads?
I was at the event. Looked like a business trip for Tuohy. she ran with the pack for a while, took the lead, nobody went with her and she cruised. for those saying she didn't close hard, well, she didn't need to. it wasn't a time trial. she didn't look tired at all when she finished, clearly had a lot left in the tank. i think this was about getting her racing legs back and for what it's worth it was successful.
look forward to watching her compete in Europe, probably go thru some growing pains against elite runners, but that's the only way you get better.

It was also hot and uncharacteristically humid for that area of SoCal. Easily sub 15 in better conditions and with better competition. Has Hassan run as planned, Tuohy would have run 14:55.

yes, very humid, even after the sun set. she could have gone sub 15 if necessary, but there was no need to.

My thoughts as well. In contrast of the pained expression when struggling at the trials this was a more typical ‘run in the park’ effort. She typically closes in sub 70 style, even when finishing a 10K. Her 15 close a couple of years ago was done in 63, same as Morgan’s dramatic close in the 15 last night. With better competition this should have been a PR effort. A sub 15 is around the corner…with elite competition she will be heading to the 40’s and 50’s and longer term to a 14:30 level. Her goal is to join the Monson, Morgan, Cranny level as soon as her body allows.

There is an interview done by Runnerspace where she says something to the effect that she is not in her best shape ever. I think 15:07 is pretty close to where her fitness was that night. I would expect it to improve some over the next 2 months, to what level I have no idea.

I don't buy the "she didn't need to" stuff. If she had it to close in 68-67 the last 800m, she would have certainly done that.
Nonetheless, this was an encouraging effort. Very close to her PR.
The question is how quickly can she get to 1440s because that is really where she needs to get to, to have a real pro career in the 5k, even in the US right now.
It will be interesting if we get to see both Morgan and Schweizer in the Olympic Final. Morgan is 26 and Schweizer is 28; LA ‘28 is not guaranteed.
Kelati probably could have made the 5000m team.
Valby is 21. Tuohy is 22.
Wayment is 25.
Henes is 25. Donaghu is 26. Morgan is 26. Kelati is 27.
Schweizer is 28.
Andrews is 28.
Cranny is 28.
ESP is 29.
Interesting that there are no competitive 23 or 24 yr-olds in the above list.
Will McClean (28) or Mackay (26) of Boston New Balance move up to the 5000m in the next year or two? Any others of note not on the list?
I left out Monson.
Here is a short list potentially competing at next year’s 5000m Championship:
ESP is 29. Cranny is 28. Monson is 26. Schweizer is 28. Valby is 21. Kelati is 27. Henes is 25. Tuohy is 22. Morgan is 26. Andrews is 28. Donaghu is 26.
Who are the up and coming American collegiate distance runners, who could be in the mix in 4 years? It’s likely the coming year will be dominated by a Kenyan. Who’s in line after that?

Two Kenyans, Doris or Hilda. But if the set her loose, the semi-pro Hilda could repeat what Valby did, 5 Individual NCAA Championships in one year.
