Bit of a late reply to this but Josh Kerr has no TUEs (or missed tests/filing failures) - he's posted screenshots of his ADAMS app to his Instagram story semi-recently proving this.
Thank you for the information. Yes, no surprises here, Josh Kerr my darling is clean as an angel fell from heaven if that's what you need!! The same goes for Jake Wightman.
Josh Kerr wants to show Jakob Ingebrigtsen that he will whoop his ass cleanly on 6th August 2024 and not be suspected of gaining any unfair advantage from controversial performance enhancement TUEs!!!!!
Tbh I would expect an athlete of Kerr's caliber to never drink alcohol, not just give it up 3 months before the Olympics...
Amen to that. You do remember Hicham El King Guerrouj do you huh????? That sorta 3:26:00 caliber speaks to MONKHOOD did you know that sir??????
I do repeat M-O-N-K!!!!!!!! The equivalent of N-U-N for the women!!!!!!!! I also think Kerr's caliber cannot accept a drop of alcohol in his internal systems but it may also be that Kerr drinks alcohol once in like 3 months to begin with so that's why he waited till 3 months out from 6th August 2024 to begin his fasting from all alcohol, you feeling me?????
From this 3 month mandate we can infer that Kerr probably drinks once in 3 months or something like that, very infrequently but I agree that it should be better than that because TRUE MONKS like El G doesn't even THINK of alcohol, you feeling me????

At times, Kerr's sacrifices have not been alone, with Mackey joining in and Jill also giving up alcohol for three months before the Olympics, as she did for the Worlds - a form of solidarity to help him through.
If you say you can't do it at all, you are an alcoholic right? I'm only 17. How hard is it to give the stuff up. I don't get it. I give up coke before my big meets.
People think they can beat alcohol addiction. We are all quick to point at the binger that just can't say no and has a black out every weekend. It just starts out as a fun party thing to do. But think about some of your parents who drink wine and beer just about every night. The ones who say they drink in moderation. They can't two drinks but the recycle bin says other wise. There is the binger and then there is the mean drunk -- a lot of different kind of drunks. I quit almost two years ago. It was very difficult. I tried to quit many times before I finally did. Alcohol is a tolerated social experience. Everywhere you look alcohol consumption is being promoted as the fun thing to do. But the reality is that you will have a better life without it.

Shorter had something like four litres of beer on the night before the '72 Olympic Marathon. And you've got Rod Dixon's "All I want to do is drink beer and train like an animal" quote. I'm not sure why you'd expect what you do.
I don't think it would be hard for anyone to be honest. If you're an olympian you are used to making some very hard sacrifices for very long periods of time. I suppose if you're not an olympian, but got to go to Paris, the sheer excitement of being able to access a stage far beyond your ability would be enough motivation to make quitting fairly easy.
That being said, I don't see how having a drink once or twice a week is in any way detrimental to your running fitness. In small quantities there are beneficial qualities, besides just the mental boosts one may gain
I guess I'd want to know why he's doing it. Because if consumed in moderation, as in a couple of drinks a week, there won't be a physical performance improvement from abstaining from alcohol. If it's a matter of "pulling out all the stops" for a complete mental focus on preparation, that I totally understand. But isn't he already getting all the rest, recovery, nutrition and training needed?
Now, if the alcohol is preventing him from doing all the things I mentioned every single day to achieve his best results, then of course cut out the alcohol. But then I'd argue, he had a problem with alcohol to begin with.
So my point is this is most likely a somewhat silly mental exercise, because we have no reason to believe alcohol is an issue for him. But there's also no reason to believe this will have any impact on his performance ability.
I'm genuinely glad that you all find it so easy to never drink, but let's stop pretending it's due to your superior moral judgement. We all know Letsrunners have no friends.
YOU GUYS SUCK AT READING. his mom and Mackey give up alcohol, not his fiancee. Jill is his mom, Larimar is his fiancee. Good job OP, you are great.

"High in the stands at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest in August 2023, sat John and Jill Kerr."
"He met Larimar Rodriguez, now his fiancee, in that first week on a campus bus that his parents had blagged on to posing as professors."
I last had an Alcoholic Beverage 2 years ago. Too many years of taking out clients and staying late night for dinners with them and I realized it was time to dial it back and let the younger kids do it (I am in my 50's).
Once my body realized how much easier it is to wake up in the morning and function without the effects of a hangover, it felt like there was no going back.
For me now, the idea of avoiding the hangovers is the biggest motivation for me to not have alcohol. Also, my training became much easier because my body wasn't trying to metabolize the after effects of drinking and staying out late.
I feel people have the right to enjoy alcohol if they want to do so and I certainly did indulge in the past. It just seemed as if it was the right time to move on and live a bit more moderately. As far as those who worry about having a social life without drinking, I have been out many times to bars or restaurants where everyone else was drinking alcohol and I felt like I wasnt missing out on anything.
Maybe the most interesting part of my lifestyle change is that many of my clients who are younger also dont drink (or are consuming in extreme moderation) and they are happy to be hanging out without getting wasted.
Perhaps I will drink again 1 day. But, right now my body is just taking a hard pass on anything with alcohol.
