So one very long thread is commenting on how Jess Hull is doped to the gills because of her progression and huge PR yesterday, and this thread is saying ESP is easily a sub 3:53 runner and faster than Hull, no problem but had never broken 3:58 before this year. Hull at least has a history of going for it in fast races and fading. ESP is suddenly and unproven 3:53 runner now because she gave birth to a baby last year?
If ESP is a clean sub 3:53 runner, we all might as well just believe Shelby was clean and her positive test was some sort of frame job.

Look up their head to head races on World Athletics. Hull has a 8-6 edge in the 1500/mile, but that includes heats and semis. They are very close in races, and I think St. Pierre would have been right with Hull in the same situation yesterday. . . No tactics, just full drafting FK and Hull, well rested, etc.
Wait a minute! I thought that Hiltz was considered the top American in the 1500.
False, Cole Hocker is the top American in the 1500.
ESP is on par with Hull and could have ran between 3:50-3:52 today. Todays results are actually great news for ESP.
Agree!
Finally, someone who actually understands running. Had ESP been in that race she definitely would've run 3:50-3:52. Why do you think Coach Coogan has her running 5000's? In order to withstand a 1500 WR pace you need to be aerobically strong in addition to having great speed. It's a process that takes a few years to develop, ESP has just begun incorporating this into her training and racing plan. Once she backs off the 5000m training and increases the 1500m speed training she will drop a huge PR. How fast? Who knows, one thing for certain, she will PR, it's just a matter of how much. Also, she's setting herself up for future 5000m success and will most likely be looking at that distance in 2028.

No. There is a reason to think ESP is in the low 3:50's because she ran 2 x 5K's and 3 x 1500 at trials and qualified for both teams. The last race she front ran 3:55.9. It is reasonable to think that without 2 hard 5K's in her legs and running with a fast pack not from the front she will be faster. Maybe not, but there is every reason to think she will be faster.
I do not think Hull is doping. She has been trending toward this kind of speed for the past year. I am not at all surprised she ran that fast. Impressed, but not surprised.
I do think the women's 1500 in Paris is going to be so good!

Yes!
ESP has been training to be on the podium in Paris. She used the trials to level up by doing that grueling double. She made both teams. She is the only runner that attempted that double that made both teams. Cole Hocker could not even do it.
ESP has been preparing to race the world's best in Paris just like she did in the indoor 3K. The rest of the US field prepared for the trials. They all ran well, but that was the big event for them. We have not seen ESP 100% in the 1500 yet. I do think she is going to be a good bit faster than the 3:55.9 that she front ran on tired legs.
I was already shocked she wanted to pick 1500 over 5000, she seems like the kind of athlete who could, as an actor portraying Bowerman once said, make the longer distance "her G** d*** plaything" -- Small but strong and no shortage of guts. Oh well, maybe she'll rep us at 5k on home soil next go-round.
USA medal chances significantly lower after Paris DL
Agreed. Transitive properties between times in a paced, one-round race and a multi-round, unpaced race always perfectly correlate between competitors who weren't in the same races.
Just like Pre trying to chase down Viren for gold and gets shut out of the podium. The last time Kipyegon lost a 1500 m was to a very fit Hassan. We would be very lucky to get a bronze in this field --you have not even mentioned the 3 Ethiopians in the field who fast faster times than the existing AR (3:50-3:53 range) who we would also have to beat to challenge for gold.

Yep, and just a quick note to add that, in addition to frontrunning and all the previous races, she also paced the race poorly for a time trial (which it wasn’t, obviously). Going out in 61 and then hitting a couple 64s before trying to close is far from ideal, timewise. The race for the podium is going to be a total cluster, and she could easily end up 7th or worse, but predicting races based on comparing the trials final to a Kipyegon special is absurd.

EPS is just another doped up american using her pregnancy as a screen to load up on whatever drugs then tries to convince us that she's got 'mom power' after giving birth.
