Sweet Jesus, didn't we put this to bed? She wins by a country mile, she must not have a kick, she runs down Karissa and darn near Kelati, she still has no kick?'
Explain something to me, where are all these sit and kick races she has lost that earned her this scarlett letter?
Shes not Hassan, but she kicks as well as any american , clearly (above 5000). Show m any evidence at all to the contrary?
She didn't kick in the 10 k. she followed . Weini is the only one who kicked. Valby messed up in the 5k by time trialing the whole race, while Ellie sat back to out kick in end. So Val y has better chance of placing in 5k
Valby didn’t ’mess up’ by pushing the pace, because the top three would have welcomed a 15min race, given the opportunity, and would quite likely still have beaten Valby in a slower race, which would have just encouraged others to try and hang and contest with Valby.
Valby ran her best race in that 5, all things considered, coming away with the Olympic Standard. What might be questioned is whether Valby expended too much energy unnecessarily in the 5 prelim.
Correct. Some of these posters are idiots. She hit the standard. She knew that ESP would scratch. And Valby declined the spot. Tuohy fans are insufferable. Imagine if the roles were reversed? They are never going to get over Valby being an Olympian while their girl is another average US pro.
smart to not double the 5 and 10 in Olympics. would have been brutal.
I still wonder if Hobbs Kessler doubles. for as talented as he is, that's a hell of a lot of running for someone his age.
It is also cool that she is focusing on the 10K because her best time was a mostly solo effort, so we still don't really know what she is capable of. I am curious to see how fast PV can run the 10K, and we are about to find out. No other races, and a loaded field that will push her the whole way. I think she will race fearlessly, and without having other races in her legs will have a great result. Excited to watch her. Crazy to imagine that with all of the buzz around different athletes from time to time, Parker Valby is the one that leap frogged right to the Olympics. In the past couple of years everything just fell into place for her, and it will be exciting to see how well she runs.
Smart move Parker, now go all out and destroy your pb. Honestly no American should double except Grant Fisher. He at least has a snow ball chance in hell of possibly grabbing a medal in either. Even Ellie did the right thing with the women's 5000m heat (which probably will be fast) being run the day before the 1500m FINAL.
I agree with this except Noah Lyles. Noah Lyles should double. And Hobbs Kessler. I just want to see Hobbs run twice, and he was fierce in both at the trials.

Push her the whole way? If the pace is just 30:00, she’ll immediately be gapped. With a PR about 1:50 slower than the fastest runners, she will be lapped if the winning time is in the mid-29s or faster.
There’s no Paris 10000m thread about Nico Young, who is about the same age, and far more competitive than Valby. He’s about 40 seconds off of the WR, and unless it’s a hot pace from the gun, or there’s a hard surge somewhere near the middle, he’ll be in the front group for most of the race.
