Did it ever occur to Natosha that the reason she got second in that race was because it was so slow? The slow pace helped her catch up after her fall, and it played to her strengths because she had one of the best kicks.

She wasn’t a strong kicker. She got out kicked by Amy Hastings who didn’t have jets either
Yeah Shalane went to the front and slowed things down after Uhl's shoe came untied, so that Uhl could stop and tie her shoe and still be able to catch back up
I don't see any problem with this. In cycling, if/when one of the leaders takes an unfortunate spill (generally one at no fault of their own, as opposed to a large group pileup,) it's often customary for the other top competitors to hold off from attacking until the leader rejoins the pack. Uhl's shoe coming untied would be a pretty dumb reason for her to not make the team and it feels like the right thing to do, to me at least, to slow the pace down and allow her to rejoin the pack. That said, if someone saw her shoe come untied and decided to launch a move because of that, that's fair game as well. It's just unfortunate that Natosha fell.
The bloom is off the rose with Shalane. At BTC did she really not know Shelbo was doping? Questionable racing tactics. One big marathon win cannot atone for these sins.
Most American distance runners are cowardly sheep who just follow along in slow races, like lamb being led to the slaughter. Then they trip and fall, or quit (Hobbs Kessler). This is one reason why we have lacked a truly great miler for decades. How can you be great if you're a coward who won't take the lead - early in the race - and push the pace?
As SOON as I saw her post this I rolled my eyes - complete victim mentality. When someone makes a move in a race (whether that be slow down or speed up) you have a choice to do something about it. There were 10-15 other ppl in that race, Rogers included, who could have kept the pack moving. Just because it was Shalane in her prime doesnt mean you cant pass her. Be bold. Look at Emily Mackay in indoor worlds this year taking the lead when she had little or no chance to win. It paid off for her. But also, it's been 12 years since the race in question. Time to move on, Natosha. It also is the race that gave her a lot of recognition when she wasn't well known outside of NCAA (she had a big PR). Not a good look.
At that same trials (2012) Kim Conley did not have the standard, helped push the pace and made the team. She barely got the standard (0.2 sec) and barely beat Julia Lucas for third.
Virtually every distance race at the Trials is slow. In 2012, she had every chance to get a qualifier before the Trials, just like everyone else in the race. It was bad fortune to fall and get trampled. She's a gamer, not a time trialist. Complaints don't look good for someone who should know the sport as well as she does.
Note to Natosha and anyone else who doesn't understand this; the goal is to make the team. 12 athletes make the USA gymnastics Olympic team. If you are the 13th place athlete, watching the 12th place athlete compete at the trials and you are separated from that athlete by a margin that requires them to literally fall off of the apparatus...the 13th place athlete is watching the 12th place perform and is literally hoping they fall off of the apparatus and/or have a horrible performance. - Life is brutal sometimes! Simply making and even more so competing in just one Olympics is confirmation that the years of hard work was worth and Olympian is a title / salutation that will never go away.
