Is this a joke post?
"My theories? Wait - you aren't seriously contending that the impacts of altitude on a 100m race are the same as on an 800m race right?
Congratulations - the world has known for a long time that anaerobic events (such as the 100m, the LJ etc etc) benefit from altitude. At the same time the world has also know that events with an aerobic component (which basically begin with the 800m which is 70% +/- 3-4% aerobic) are compromised by the basic reduction in oxygen saturation in the air. Congratulations you even linked an article on this - did you miss the large image at the top of your article with the distance guy flat on his back having oxygen given to him through a tank? Why do you think that was?
It's why distance runners go to altitude to train for months, It's why the NCAA has conversion calculators to give athletes who perform at altitude a fair adjustment (in both directions - positively (distance) and negatively (sprints) compared to sea level.
Yeah, the 800m is obviously not as impacted as a 5 or 10000m, that's not the claim - but it's still more difficult to run at that altitude than at sea level. That conversion is not my math buddy. And yes it is determined by the individual athlete - there is no one perfect conversion factor, but the bottom line remains, 1.41.70 at 6000ft is going to be much faster at sea level. Is it 1.5 seconds? Some conversions suggest so. Could it 1 second for Wanyoni? Maybe - but it's something. It gave us a very good indication of Rudisha in 2012 and what he might be capable of and that came to fruition.
I'm starting to understand your profile as a poster, don't worry you aren't rare - basic, surface level logic and knowledge - not much true understanding of the sport. I don't really think you should be engaging to be perfectly honest. You are the classic pocket-knife in a gun fight guy. Anyway our engagement is over.
