There are 8 women with the Olympic standard in the 5000 and only four of them are running the race. Monson injured, Kelati didn't register, Henes scratch, Wayment didn't register. This leaves St. Pierre, Cranny, Andrews, and Schweizer with the standard.

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but Tuohy only seems to have one time out of the required three, so I guess her path to the Team not only required getting Top 3, but also her finishing times.
I can foresee Valby just doing the 10000m like Kelati.
If it comes down to the final, ESP, Cranny and Schweizer are going to sit on any athlete trying to go for a time.

Meaning, somebody like Tuohy would need to be the one out there pushing the pace. But I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t, so it will probably be a slow tactical race, making it easier for ESP to double.

So since the kickers Andrews, ESP, Cranny, and Schweizer have the standard, I can foresee at least the latter 3 happy to see the final to be as slow as possible, even much slower than 15min. There will be some minimum time that will eliminate Tuohy (due to lack of sufficient ranking) even if she were to make top three.

Cranny scratched from the 10k . . . as expected . . . but declared for the 1500.
Which does not mean she will race the 1500, just has it as a safety valve if her 5k goes south.
Since USATF does not have an honest effort rule, anyone can declare for any event they wish but then simply not run it when race day roles around.
Thus, can't be sure ESP will actually race the 5000 even though she is Accepted/Declared for it.

That is true, and you bring up another point of intrigue:
If Valby is in the 5, the final will be fast: tougher for ESP’s double, tougher for Valby’s 10, good for anyone wanting to be pulled to a fast time.
If Valby skips the 5, the final will be slow: good for ESP’s double, etc.
Valby too, might declare for both, then skip the 5. Both of the athletes, not knowing what the other will do, may even show up on the 5 startline…maybe start the prelim…and then maybe drop out?
We will get further clarity when Valby declares. Maybe she will just scratch the 5 for peace of mind in total focus and recovery for only one race at hand.

Agree Touhy won't push pace, but she will be ready for a 2000m close. If she miraculously qualified, she would go chase standard at a Euro meet. (My brain too foggy now to see if 15:15, 15:15 + points would make world list)

Correct.
Her second 5k would be the Trials semis on 6/21.
If she advances, her third 5k would be the Trials finals on 6/24.
If Katelyn pulls off a top-3 miracle, she likely would need to have achieved the 14:52 Q in either the semis or final because the WA ranking points derived from those two races plus her 15:15 would not be high enough to get her to Paris.
Others on this forum who are better than I at figuring out what KT would need time-wise to get her in on rankings points, please chime in.
Will say one thing, though, about Tuohy.
Given her agent recently said she's resumed training following her hamstring rehab -- but did not believe she would be ready for the Trials -- if Katelyn does advance to the finals and is actually in contention for a top-3 finish with, say, a couple laps to go -- then she will have pulled off one of the greatest sandbag jobs we've ever seen. And it would be a testament to how great a talent she is.

The WA window for qualification closes 30 June, so it is impractical to think a US athlete will be able to qualify with the Standard after the Trials. So if they are actually fit enough to run the Standard, doing so at the Trials would make much more practical sense.

Assuming Valby is not in the race, then even with 2000m to go, it will still be ESP, Cranny and Schweizer willing to sit on her for a time thereafter.

Not surprising at all if Tuohy, Donoghu, others without the Standard get their Qs -- but in Europe, in July or late summer after Paris.
That would set them up nicely for Tokyo WCs next year.
However, Tokyo 5000 Q (currently unannounced) may be faster than 14:52, so better aim for a sub-14:50.
Katie Izzo is now #24 on the 10K list, the final spot for the field, with Katie Camarena still pending declaring. If she declares for the 10K, Izzo will be out of the Trials, but will still have the inside track to an Olympic berth due to cross country.
Also Izzo will be accepted to the 10000 regardless of Katie Camerena. USATF rules say that having an auto qualifier for worlds gets you into trials.
Are you sure about this? Rule 8 states:
Automatic qualification, as listed in this section, shall not abrogate any entry requirements other than the qualifying requirements for a championship. Any athlete who attains any of the following shall be afforded automatic qualification into a USA Indoor, Outdoor, Race Walking or Marathon Championship or USA Olympic Team Selection in the same event in which the performance was attained: 1. Track and Field - (a) During the current or four previous calendar years, earned an individual medal in track and field in an Olympic Games or in a World Athletics World Indoor or Outdoor Championship. (b) Is the reigning USA Indoor or Outdoor champion. (c) Has a World or Olympic ‘A’ Standard that would apply to the current championship team selection. (d) Finish as one of the top three at the preceding year’s corresponding national championship (Indoor qualifies for Indoor, Outdoor qualifies for Outdoor).
I don't see where this applies to Izzo. No medals, no reigning champion, no Olympic "A" standard, not top-3 last year. She is currently within the rankings quota but this is not the same as having an "A" standard.
