It's actually kind of hilarious how "discus" has been a running gag here for at least a decade or more, and yet it gets at least one person every time.
r useless post by you. At least it's fun knowing how much you rage after each great race.
You read every one of my posts, and respond to them. They must be a lot of fun for you, too. But you still don't know the difference between rage and contempt.
You are a lot of fun. I saw your rage on the other thread where I posted Snell's picture. You enjoy criticizing everyone else but God forbid anyone touches you or your idols!
I ran good times in my era. I placed top 10 in four separate D1 NCAA finals. I ran in college in the late 70s and and tried to run 'professionally' in the early 80s with crappy shoes (training and racing).
But, my shoes were better and the tracks were better (tartan vs. dirt or cinder) than those who ran in the 60s and before.
Those guys in that previous era thought the same about us as we do now about super shoes, mondo tracks, wave light, and, to a lesser extent, training and nutrition. My point is the sport has always evolved.
I suggest we focus now on finishing order at major championships.
I wish it were that simple. Cheating (for distance - initially blood doping, but later drugs and refinement of the use) has been a cancer on sport. Note, not just this sport. Pick any.
This is why I'm much less interested anymore. I wish it were otherwise...................
I watched the men's 5000m race twice and was surprised that they ran only one second off the record. It never felt like that was the "plan" or that they were even that close. It looked like a good race --- mid-12:40s, etc. --- but not one for the ages or the record books.
I guess running the last 800 in 1:53 really helps to get you under your goal, regardless of what pace you were running before.
But it did worry me because they aren't really doing anything in training that the OG Geb (Haile) or Bekele was doing back in the day. It just shouldn't be that easy, right? They are making a mockery of the times from just a few years ago.
That said, it is sort of reassuring that everyone in the world is doing the same thing right now:
not one, not two, but three Scotsmen can run sub-3:48 in the mile
The second best Norwegian can run 3:29 in the 1500
+500 Japanese men can break 1:01 in the half marathon
95 college guys break 4 minutes in the mile each year
80 HS boys can break 9:00 in the 2M
A college kid, Nico Young has run 1:47, 3:34, sub-13, and sub-27!
A masters marathoner has run sub-2:05
A 17 year old Australian boy ran a 3:50 mile? WTH?
An American ran 3:43 in the mile last year and lost the race
A random person named Adam Fogg ran 3:49 and he is only the 7th best Brit
Women can now run 14:00/sub-29/2:11, and on and on and on.
They can't ALL be doping, can they? Is it like a world-wide conspiracy and everyone except the posters on Letsrun are in on it? Everyone is doping except us?

Keep them coming.
A discussion with you is like that with a child. Some subjects are beyond your capacity.

You hardly ever had any real discussion in letsrun. Any time some of your nonsense is exposed, you change the subject or you run away. That's not discussing something.

You expose nothing except that you think like a child.

Inb4 "nah fam its a throwing gag"
discus is not a "track and field event," just a field event. Unless it goes astray and lands on the track, killing a runner and involving itself in the race. That's arguably a track element to it.

Your thinking is driven by pure hate and also totallyby not understanding of easy subjects.
Gebrhiwet 10:42.2 with 800m to go, from the video. 11:41.6 with 400m to go.
So final 800 in 1:54.5 and final 400 in 55.1.
If he can replicate this form he's going to win the OG 5k, never mind Jakob. This is just as good as Cheptegei's WR run.... considering the insane final 800 maybe even better.

I would bet my next 5 paychecks that more athletes are doping now than ever before. It is justified by “recovery” or “everyone is doing it” or “no one can tell me what I can and can’t do.” That said, the overall recent improvement in times is straight up because of cheat shoes. So, not only do you have athletes using the latest PEDs, but also have them recovering more quickly because of the shoes and, are racing faster because of shoes. Anyone who can’t see this hasn’t been in the sport long enough.
Ban cheat-shoes and we will see an immediate decline in times. Of course, this will never happen now. nike has got their hooks in sport more than anyone else. Funny because their poster-athlete is now considered obsolete by the upcoming generation.
