I didn't go to the nicest high school back in the 80's. I know of at least four that didn't make it to graduation due to violence/gunshots/stabbings/murder. Most of it was gang and/or drug related turf wars. A number of kids were removed from school and placed in alternative high schools and juvenile detention. A number of them ended up in prison. At least my kids were able to attend very good public schools out in the suburbs.
