Show COFFEE CLUB, Ep The Secret Life of Hobbs Kessler: His secret training method, winning a World Indoors medal, his climbing journey, and Pre-Classic - May 16, 2024
He should double at the trials. The 1500 final, arguably his best event, is on Day 4.
The 800 heats start on Day 7. The 800 is gravy/back up plan.
If he happens to make both teams then he can decide what to do in Paris.
Running both at the trials with all those heats gives him more racing experience which he still needs.
Of course, he would double again at the Olympics.
Similar situation at the Olympics: the 1500m final is on August 6th, and the 800m rounds start on August 7th. So if a 1500m runner makes it in both events, then choosing to double shouldn't harm their chances in the 1500m. The Olympic double is harder because you get two fewer days of rest, but that only affects his 800m chances.
3:48 is better than 1:45.07. And if you watched that 800m heat with him going out in 25.4 and the dicey stuff at the end, tactical 800s are a scary prospect. He should stick with the 1500.
And I think he might have been DQ ed
however if unimpded he would have run under 1:45:.00
Surprised I haven't seen more discussion about his tactics at the end. Have seen lots of inside passes over the past years and I don't understand why guys don't ride the rail and throw elbows. Kessler almost went full Robbie Andrews stepping off the track. Other tactic is pushing guys out to lane 3 or 4 which sucks as well..
