Sorry but these times mean nothing in a strategic race. BTW Andrews time is 14:46 not 14:43. And she was a no show at Penn relays where she was marketes as the highlight 😂
and appears to be injured. Cranny, Kelati, Schweizer, Valby and Henes are the top to make the team in a strategic Trials race
Uhhh…ESP, Cranny, Schweizer and Henes (who is racing a 1500m today) in a strategic race.
Considering a four-year build, we are entering the final inning before the show. I’m pulling back on any Henes prognostication until we see more.
No thats wrong, Andrews ran 14:43 at the stanford Invite, Hilmer Lodge Stadium, Walnut, CA (USA) on 06 MAY 2023.
As I said its just the 2023 - 2024 PB list, thats it. I was simply stating facts. I'm not sure why people are taking it to mean it is my list of contenders or something. I never said such a thing.
Always runs one good race per year. In 2023 she ran other 5Ks and couldn’t break 15! Inconsistency is her middle name
I don’t understand why Andrews catches vitriol on this site. She said she was focusing on just the 5000m this year, with low distractions. The smarmby-parmby injury rumors are strange, without hard evidence. And it would be coincidentally strange she would pick up a season-ending injury along with her teammate.
If she shows up on the line, she will be a legit contender.
Fastest american woman steeplechaser this year so far is Gabi Jennings. Total fan of the new blood ascending in this event.
The favourites to represent the States in Paris remain Frerichs (if healthy), Gear, Markezich and Wayment, but Jennings' 9:19 at Suzhou puts her right in the mix. Anyone who can't roll into 9:1X shape when it counts is a pretender, not a contender for Team USA.
with Emma Coburn out it opens up a spot, but frankly, the other 2 favorites, Krissy Gear and Courtney Wayment, have looked beatable so far this year. Could we see a totally new US Steeplechase team this Olympics?
I also wonder if some 5K runners switch to steeple hoping its an easier route to the Olympics.
thoughts?
You mean to tell me SteepleSquigs isn’t at the top of your contender list?

I think given that Lexy Halladay beat Wayment with a 9:26 in their respective season openers a few weeks ago, I'd put her up there in that top 5. Clearly can rock up in 9:1X shape with that opener and 2 outright wins in 2 starts. But don't think she has the flat speed to challenge a healthy Frerichs.
wow, Frierichs is out and it's gotten even more wide open.
Gear and Wayment are the favorites but after that it's anyone's guess.
Logan Jolly (Gears teammate at Arkansas) looked pretty good at the LA Grand Prix.
I bet Colleen Quigley went to the track first thing this morning and ran some hurdles just to see if she still has any jump left in her legs.
Who replaces Frerichs on starting line at Pre? Jennings I guess.
Ha, posted the same thing on the other thread. That would be great for Jennings for sure. She and Boreman have the next best times for US steeplers this season
I bet Quigley gives it a shot. she's basically an influencer now, her main source of revenue is pitching products and herself. what better way than if she makes the Olympic team. just making it to trials will benefit her.
I wouldn't count out Allie Ostrander or Angelina Ellis. I don't believe either quite has the Olympic standard yet, but both have been running very well lately and getting faster with each race.

the way things are going in Steeplechase this year I'm not counting anyone out. at this point I wouldn't be surprised to see Lolo Jones or Caitlyn Jenner on the start line.
