Regarding banditing the race, she posted a brief “apology” on Twitter a few hours ago that concluded with:

”In the future I’ll be sure to look up the rules if I decide to run again ☺️”

(the emoji is an approximation)

So she’s trying to play it off like she didn’t know that not registering and paying entry fee was against the rules, which I find totally unbelievable.

I strongly suspect her claim that she ran the Brooklyn half at 7:43 pace while crying periodically is BS. Nothing about her story with the selfie she posted rings true. She says she ran cross country in high school, but don’t be fooled into thinking she’s a legit former runner with residual fitness: if you go back a few years on her instagram, you’ll get into years of her often posting selfies of a then-heavier woman eating donuts or cupcakes with some body-positivity message.

The course would be perfect for cutting in the first 7 miles. That’s assuming she actually covered the last 6, and really I don’t think there’s any reason to trust her: she is professionally full of sh_t, a modern iteration of a snake oil salesman, really. And I know this sounds harsh, but the snake oil salesman was probably of a more sound mind, generally, because he fully understood what he was doing.

The comments “RunRagged” made were very good, much better than mine.

She's extremely self absorbed though apparently physically capable.

I find it difficult to believe that it never crossed her mind that a sporting event of that size might incur some kind of registration and/or fee. I know she's 'not a runner' and this is a fairly niche sport, but I'm fairly sure most adults have some concept of what an organised marathon is. We're not talking some kids jogging around a public track here, you're running past aid stations, into all the finish line infrastructure/celebrations...at some point does it not twig that there might be a little something more involved? Like, if I happen across some big event that looks fun I'm generally inclined to ask about what participation involves before I assume I can just jump in because I feel like it, because there's almost always some logistics involved and it seems like the polite/sensible thing to do. Her career is at least tangentially business-related, so it just seems like a weird move and not one that I think would reflect particularly well on a 'life coach/role model' type figure either way.

Regardless, I think what irritates me is the stereotypical influencer 'sorry I did something that made you mad!' apology, which doesn't actually acknowledge or rectify the issue in the first place. Banditing a race generally isn't terribly detrimental as an isolated incident, but it absolutely has downstream impacts on the RDs/volunteers/participants as a practise. You're allegedly a positive example here, maybe donate some money or promote volunteering in another race? But she mostly seems concerned with her own gratification and saving her own ass while putting some altruistic spin on it, and while I've been one to defend influencers in the past that's exactly what grates on people.

if this inspires you to make improvements in your life then great. if she's done something wrong then someone who's involved will sort it out. to me it's a whole lot of nothing about nothing.

At this point, this is a mere amusement now that something like this doesn't even bother me anymore. There have been far worst bandits and scammers on DD's All Star page. She didn't even wear a bib or stole one off the web. She ran on the course. That is her crime. She did appear to took the medal from Austin race but it's a trinket. It's not like where there were shortage of medals at Boston 2 years ago.

She definitely left out that her pace is 7:43 per km, not mile. Most hobby joggers (also me) would just note a finishing time, and maybe add on the average pace time if impressive. But she never notes the entire time and her Linked In where she also posted this TLDR missive has her being from or based in London. She also posted how she couldn't have run "that marathon" without the energy of everyone who showed up to "be fearless" at some event. Then everyone in the comments is like, you mean *half-marathon, bandito. It is too funny. She is certainly a grifter.

(I was wrong when I posted earlier that she had run 5 miles the day before and had wine—that was a pic from months ago. She's running 12+min miles like anyone would who hadn't trained in a while.)

We can thank the worst runfluencer of all time, Matt Choi for this one. Banditing races is a big problem. Races have permit caps on people who can run. If they're found to exceed that, there can be huge fines, leading to higher race fees (or races going away all together). At big events, like Brooklyn Half, there's a security problem with banditing races. All it takes is one or two insane people for Boston to happen again.

I was actually at a race where a big running influencer, and his partner (an elite runner) showed up this weekend. The course was too narrow for them to film safely, so they waited till the race was over, but watched the race and chatted politely, to film their content. I don't think anybody cares about that. I actually thought it spoke well of them.

The problem is everyone running a half or a marathon has a story as to why. When influencers show up and make it about themselves and bandit with bike support crews, it ruins others experiences. That's the problem with this one. Banditing sucks. I'd praise her if she found a race that wasn't sold out and ran it.

The problem is she has already gotten tons of likes and free publicity about it. I'm hoping others have contacted the Brooklyn 1/2 RD about the issue.

this is running influencers for you. Probably some of the most self centered people I've ever followed even over "fashion" influencers. They think they're so amazing running high 7 min pace - 8 min pace for a race and then don't stop posting about how amazing they are till months later and they have another opportunity to brag again. They need daily kudos from their followers showing their average run. They have no idea about anything in the running world other than themselves. I get it, it's a personal sport and you can't compare yourself to elites. However you're really not amazing and wouldn't even win a local age group 5k/10k with those times.

She is running JV high school times. Like the slowest girl on the team you all have to slow clap into the finish every meet.

A successful quarter life crisis to share with the world. Nothing more.
