Hedengren had some lingering issue, prior to her last Woodbridge loss. She said she visited a Doctor, which helped her getting back to feeling like her old self, again.
And not only did she get back to feeling like her old self, but she returned to have a historic senior year, breaking multiple high school distance records.

I talked to Jane Hedengren and her parents about that and Jane's doctor never figured out what was causing Jane to be fatigued for a few weeks last September/October. Jane got better for reasons none of them can explain.
But Leachman has been feeling fatigued for 11 months now which is a lot more serious than just for a few weeks. So she decided to stop running and hope that somehow she got better but that hasn't happened yet. Hopefully things turn around for her soon.

this happened to me in college. Never figured it out. Went from a great runner to poor performances and tired even easy runs. felt like I was a different person really. I can't explain what happened nor have the reasons why but I came back around after a few years off. Go figure. Hope she feels better soon.
Hope they are able to figure it out. Fatigue is often a hard thing to figure out: the obvious things to look for would be iron and/or B12 deficiency anemia, hypothyroidism, or epstein-barr virus. She had such a promising career and seemed very humble.
Sometimes a meet will allow teams to enter more runners but you need to declare ahead of time who your scoring seven are. It allows more runners to participate, which is what HS athletics is all about.
As for EL, so awesome to see this positive report. The news has been so "Debby Downer" for the past 8 months. Great to see she might be ready to take to the course again. She always seemed so happy on the track and it must have been tough to have to be away from it for awhile. Best of luck to her and her teammates!
"Leachmania" - 1) excitement generated when Elizabeth Leachman races, 2) the nightmare experience of the boys in Srand by Me
boerne champion had another meet last weekend. didn't run. that was the 4th meet of the season and the midway point. state progression starts in a month at district.
while i understand the thought process where the round rock meet would be the sort of big, strong field event a top runner might look forward to (state course, statewide draw, elite divisions), she's been out a long time, and that high stress actually doesn't make a ton of sense as the re-entry point of a hurt or sick runner.

An interview that Elizabeth Leachman did with the Nike Elite Program was just posted on YouTube. The way she talked in that interview makes it seem like she won't be running xc this fall.
She talked about a variety of things but nothing at all about running this year or about running goals going forward. I wouldn't be surprised if she skips xc and doesn't try to return until her school starts their track season in February.

Well if she was/is considered even a possibility for the meet on September 20th, that seems a very good sign for her resuming competition sometime this fall -- at the very least, it means it's not ruled out. (And I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure those Nike Elite interviews were filmed back in July during their event at Nike headquarters, so they're not up to date.)

Yes, her interview was filmed a month ago, but she should have known by then if she was planning on competing this fall or not.
Leachman is obviously very talented but even she can't stop running for 7 or 8 months and then run for only 3 months and win NXN. And nothing in that interview indicated she was planning on starting to run again any time soon. That's unfortunate. Now that Hedengren has graduated, Leachman had a shot at becoming the first girl to ever win NXN and Foot Locker / Brooks but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
She's an amazing talent and a very sweet and hard-working girl. Praying for her to get back into racing at a high level when the time is right for her.
did not run the RR mcneil meet. i think it would have been a rough return choice as the winner broke 18, almost 20 broke 19 mins, and roughly 80 broke the 20 barrier. that wouldn't be easing into it.
local paper, from mid august - "National and state champion Elizabeth Leachman is not expected to run at Saturday’s meet and hopes to be back on the course sometime in September as she recovers from injury entering her senior season..."
