Was your PhD structured in a way to be compatible with being a pro athlete?
Not at all. What people often don't understand is that simply getting a PhD is worthless. In many fields, especially mine, you need to build very strong momentum, publishing a flurry of papers and being a good collaborator to various contacts. It's easy to end up unemployable and fall out of science.

Plenty of people I know who got PhDs in STEM were not superstars with a "flurry of papers" (maybe 1-2 in a journal with IF > 2) and still landed good jobs in private industry.
All these posts regarding politics and wokeism yet nobody is mentioning the biggest travesty. Her boyfriend got her a recycled plastic cup for her birthday WTAF!!

Let’s focus on the main thing rather than the maybes down the line: Maia is planning to run pro and will have awesome opportunities to do that. That’s where her focus is. Rest is just chit chat about what she might do after that. Because she’s earned options.
Did you guys actually watch how well she’s raced this season? You should be marveling at her running instead of putting down her academic studies. Lame.
Laura Muir became world class while in Vet School. Bannister broke 4:00 while in Med School. Talented and driven people will succeed. Not everyone does best in a less structured, full pro setting (see Andrew Wheating).

100% I think it benefits a lot of athletes not to put all their eggs in one basket like that.

She’s not talking about parallel PhD and pro running, if I understood correctly.
But even if she was, if you can’t get a PhD and also maximize your running ability, you really are doing it wrong. I am not elite, but I never ran better in my life than when I was in grad school. Train like an animal; 10 hours in lab; rest, repeat. Very straightforward and not nearly as hard to do as people are imagining.
...how the work of poets from Oceania dismantles colonial tropes and reframes climate change migration, to be specific. Seems like a doable Pro/PhD double. A lot of focused reading during rest and recovery. Beats playing video games or tooling around on a podcast.
So leftists are blaming "climate change" for the cross border invasions into western countries? How did I not see that one coming....maybe if I was a poet in Tasmania.

EXACTLY the type that complains that they’re $500k in debt from school and can’t find a job in their chosen field.
That situation was there over 4 decades ago, and it was not just 5 years in very many cases. There is a much greater supply of people with PhDs than of jobs that require those PhDs and pay appropriately.
Aerospace BS, and successful employment using that skill set, requires skills and mindset many with PhDs in "soft fields" do not have, even if those PhDs have the work ethic and the natural talent to have succeed in a mathematically intense field. "... almost certainly possesses the skills ..." is greatly exaggerated.
