Do you even follow the sport? Wolfe was 3rd at the Olympic Trials as a college junior in 2024. The only reason he didn't go to the Olympics is because his coach never had him chase the Olympic standard during the collegiate season and they didn't let people chase after the trials anymore.
True but at the end of the day Wolfe is not an Olympian. If they both retired today then Valby is the only Olympian and that gives her the edge. For now.
The whole point of this thread is about their futures. Which will have a better career and all that.
Wolfe. Speed kills. I can't get that NCAA 5k final out of my head.... Just looked so relaxed through all of the moves and unleashed hell on the last quarter. Valby is good but I think the ceiling of what Wolfe can be is higher.
Blanks and Nico are running great but I don't think we can forget last year so quickly. Wolfe was the clear best of these 3 over 5k between NCAAs and USAs. Will obviously have to up his overall pb fitness to hang though.
There's a lot that goes into measuring success of a professional career, but I will say that if the over/under on his highest Olympics finish is 11th place in any event, I will take the over in a heart beat.
Would anyone bet their hard earned money, against even money, that he'll get a top ten?
There is far more depth on the men’s side so place is not a good metric. If the 10000m in Paris had been run like a TT, Valby would have been lapped. Young finished in 12th place but hung in there until the last lap off of sub-27 pace.

When this thread was posted 2 years ago, I remembering leaning towards PV. But between being the top American at XC Worlds and being the only guy to hang with Hocker and Kerr today (2 miles is short for him), I'm going to definitively say PW at this point. He's a fighter. Very fun to watch race
