She is not a bad coach per se.... But if you put her up against Diljeet Taylor (for example), one has shown success from 800m to steeplechase to XC and one has not. It's a matter of versatility.
No one should really question if Henes is good at coaching 5k,or XC, but mid distance is fair game.
Surprised she’s committed to NC State as a true miler. Would’ve expected her to go to Oregon or Washington where she wouldn’t already be the fastest in her specialty. Barnett/Kazmierska/Elmore/Ayyildiz/Frias are operating at an incredible level
Should also mention BYU as their top five are also in the top 30 season performances as well. Plus, you'd get the benefit of that ideal mid-altitude as a miler. And I trust Diljeet to not burn up her athletes. Can't say the same for Oregon.
People seem to be taking this signing hard. Being considered a good coach is often a function of having the athletes. No more or less. Henes has handled top high school runners well and built a strong program. Every coach has their hits, misses and things going on beyond their control.

Agree... "track history" with developing young phenom talents cannot be understated. Engelhardt is a lot like Tuohy, both were 7th/8th grade prodigies. Sadie did not improve her Sophomore year, but is now improving again. Progression is never linear. Look at Tuohy, running that massive 15:37 her Soph year and never improving that until college.. if I was a young phenom (think of Rodriguez, Ritzenhein), I would consider NC State.

Not even for the stars? I have to assume Blacks' deal, as a New Balance collegiate athlete, has $ especially with how dominant he is; same with the On athletes, Valby, etc
The HS NIL’s are no money , just gear and travel to NB Nationals . Not smart for the kids to Sign that deal
I think you’re wrong. Simmons, also NB NIL, said it was significantly helping his family financially. I would I assume that’s much more than two trips to NB meets and gear.
Maybe something is transitioning st NCSt? Napoleon - a middle distance runner, Michalak - a legitimate miler in her own right, and now Sadie - probably the top middle distance runner. Choosing a good middle distance program. Perhaps more resources at NCSt will be put into middle distance. Something like that has to account for getting great middle distance recruits that won’t necessarily help their XC program?

Well Napolean's best event in hs was the 2000m s (national record holder I think) so she may end up with range from 800 thru 3000 m. Michalak seems to be more like a 3000/5000 runner who can also run a decent mile. Why NC St? Presumably she liked the visit the best whether it be Henes, teammates, culture, academic fit (what will she major in?) or whatever. She saw Stephens do well as a freshman - that couldn't hurt. For pure running and especially the mile I could see OR or WA but there must be more to it than that.
while both are amazing coaches, Henes will always have an advantage in recruiting as Diljeet Taylor draws from a smaller pool - lots of LDS kids and a strict honor code that can be a turnoff to recruits.

So the question remains: the above evidence says she should have chosen Oregon or even UVA, why did she choose NCSt?
The above compilation isn’t even correct. Megan moye made multiple indoors championships in the mile and at least one outdoors in the 1500 and Nevada Mareno and Anna beds both made ncaa’s outdoors in the 1500 in 2022. could be more omissions too.
no one is going to argue that nc state has been more successful training for xc and the 5k and 10k than other races. No need to lie to prove that point.

Sadie has a private coach for years now and it’s caused drama on the team and with the former coach who quit because of if and now Josh Spiker is the new Ventura HS coach dealing with it. Her current coach Matt Hammel is on the spectrum and very difficult to deal with. I don’t blame her for going to NC.
