Nikki cashing a big medal bonus from their sponsor while insecure men getting triggered by her identifying with a 4 letter word instead of 3, and posting on letsrun anonymously about it.
They’re a B list runner who now doesn’t have to worry about covering rent or other expenses during an Olympic year and can now throw their full focus on making it to Paris. Very smartly played by Nikki and their camp.
(I’ve got a big soft spot for the B list athletes chasing the dream and would love to see Nikki in the Olympics.)
Can't wait for the day when every athlete has a different pronoun. If I was in the race, I would demand to go by somebody as my pronoun and I would demand that the field not be described as they or them since that pronoun no longer describes me because it describes a nonbinary person in the field.

I always wondered how the gender neutral pronouns work in other languages? The french announcer called Nikki "elle" so her because there is simply no neutral in that language. In my native german we have a neutral "das" but no gender neutral person actually uses this because we use it only for things and no person wants to be adressed like a thing.
Genuinely curious how they imagine this to work outside their english/US bubble?
It is not officially accepted by Academie Fraincaise, but French has a gender neutral pronoun.
Iel is a neo-pronoun in the French language intended as an alternative to the gender-specific pronouns elle ("she") and il ("he"). It has been adopted by the Le Robert dictionary but is not officially accepted by the Académie...
She ran a great race! She has been impressive. Both she and Mackay did good. If she keeps this up she will definitely be able to qualify for the Olympics - may even give St. Pierre a run for her money.

Nikki's gender identity is different from their biological gender, but they still compete in the correct biological category. Seems pretty straightforward to me, and isn't this what many of us want biological males in a similar situation to do?
I think Nikki showed it's possible to compete in a category that doesn't align with your gender identity but represents your biological reality, without it being some kind of traumatic injustice.
