Listen to interview posted on nocontextxctrack instagram. Parker didn't have her starbucks or airpods to warmup with, she says she "totally just rawdogged the race".
For non-english speakers - the vernacular in above quote is indeed rather graphic. Quite a vivid description of experience.
Valby has done nothing to prepare herself for this kind of racing. Lapping 35 women in a JV race is not preparing for racing pros. The only reason she had to run the slow heat is she didn't race at any other meet this season. It wasn't like Millrose or the NB grand prix said she couldn't race, as the NCAA XC and 5000m champ she could have gotten in. Or she could drop down in distance to the mile and get in a race she'd have a hard time winning pretty easily. Seems to me she's running scared, afraid to get beat.
Her times speak for themselves. She doesn’t have competition at the NCAA level except for a healthy Tuohy. No reason to doubt she is a top contender for the 5K at Trials. Podium baby! Next to Monson/ESP and Cranny

Meh. Adrenaline kicks in and she was trying her hardest to get a better qualifier time for her team. Missing your airpods is a weird excuse for performance.
I thought she would go sub 4:30 (probably in the 4:28-29 range). But truthfully she does not look snappy on her feet like the best milers. Her best event is going to be the 10k if she can do the training.

Her times are fantastic, her racing skills are completely untested. I'm being critical of Valby because she has an obvious weakness and she's in an environment that would enable her to work on that.

But I think you’re missing the obvious. This is going to be her first Trials rodeo, and she’s not a favorite to make the team. She will run a time she is capable of on the day, tactics be danged. You are an obvious troll if you think Tuohy is any better in that situation.
If you want to keep going round and round, coffee club fan, then maybe you ought to have Morgan look in the mirror and ask himself what to do before OAC cuts his arse for ‘non-performance’, m’kay?

Valby is an multi NCAA champion so I don't agree she is untested. She's raced in meets with pros like Valentine and won conferences. That is about as much or more than any collegian before the trials.
The thing Valby has going for her is that she has one strategy - hard from the gun. What more tactics does she really need? It's her best shot to make the team if the pace is honest, especially in the heat (which is to her advantage). If it lags she is not going to outkick Cranny, Andrews, in the final 400m - 800m.
Everyone already knows how she will run the trials.

Markezich is prepared to compete I would say. 8:40 is no joke. Very close to 14:56. She also is a proven kicker.
Her biggest challenge will be that she might end up being the de facto pacer. It really depends on who is in the race too.
Right now, it seems like Monson is leaning towards going all in on the 10k. Morgan, Henes, Tuohy are all injured or recovering from surgery. Kelati might focus on 10k. Schweizer is a question mark.
Based on process of elimination alone she has a real shot. Andrews and Cranny are going to run but neither of them will lead (it is not to their advantage).
It's her first trials go around because she skipped the US champs last year. I have no clue where Tuohy is in terms of health or fitness, but she did put herself in a lot of tough track races last season against pros and focusing on the mile where she had more competition. In a race where both Tuohy and Valby are with the leaders with 400 to go, I think Tuohy is more prepared to win that race assuming she is healthy and fit (huge question mark). Markezich v. Valby in the 3000m at NCAA will be the first time Valby has raced someone who might beat her since NCAA regionals last spring. I'm looking forward to watching that, I'm not some troll who wishes her ill, I would like to see her improve her racing skills not just her fitness.
I don't know why you are bringing up Morgan McDonald in a Parker Valby thread, but he's just run two PRs and is on the upswing coming off a couple of injury plagued seasons. He's in a great place to get an Olympic spot for Australia and is generally a good brand ambassador. On is probably pretty happy about their minor investment in him.
I am not claiming to know whether it is against any rules, but there was a clear pacer in the men's 3,000 final at Big East championships. The FloTrack announcers even referred to him as "the rabbit." I ran in college way back in the nineties, and I seem to remember this being against the rules in a championship final, but I could be wrong.
