How her career ended and what she's done since doesn't change that she was probably the most talented female teen mid-distance runner we've ever had, with pre-super shoes times of 9:38 2M at 16 and 1:59.5/4:04/4:24 at 17 and World U20 gold at 18 in the 3000m, 8:58.
I put her #2 behind Mary Decker.
Unfortunately, all of Cain's PRs occurred in high school. 800m - 17 years, 1 month 1000m - 17 years, 9 months 1500m - 17 years, 0 months mile - 17 years, 8 month 3000m - 18 years, 2 months 2 mile - 16 years, 9 months 50000m - 17 years, 1 month
I'm very impressed by a high school girl running a 50k. Wow!
Oh God. Don’t even encourage it. We’re all done with her sob stories. Never heard anyone be such a crybaby for so long
Compared to the losers like you whining about her she is positively stoic.
Stoic!? You don’t know the definition of stoic obviously. Stoic people don’t get all emotional and complain for years about their life situation and try to get visibility by going to the media for every whine they have.
Sorry, it's not America, it's Alberto himself that perverted and filthy man and coach!!!! He polluted the young female body of Mary's then blame her for not being psychologically tolerant enough of his violation of her female body!!!!
That's CLASSIC OPPRESSION by Alberto due to the power imbalance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's not PSYCHOLOGICAL WEAKNESS ON MARY'S PART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
letsrun: THIS WOMAN WILL DO ANYTHING FOR ATTENTION
Snakes move quietly until it’s time to strike
I think the problem with Mary is that she has convinced some people that she is (still) relevant to the sport. The Tracksmith deal, the Atalanta professional running team, a media platform, and now this transfer of allegiance.
The point is that many/most female high school phenoms do not progress at the next level(s), often because of the physical maturation process. Salazar was a handy scapegoat for Mary.

That was back before she put on weight. She was waif thin back then. Alberto knew this.

Yes, some girls' bodies mature and then they run slower. But Mary Cain's main problem wasn't physical, it was mental.
Whether her mental problems were more Cain's fault or Salazar's fault or a combination of the two is debatable, but I don't think Cain's "physical maturation process" was the problem.
She and Kara should start a ptsd group for has been athketes who want to blame and and all issues on others.
Dude, sometimes things don't go well in life. It isn't always 100% your own fault. If you are deep inside an toxic workplace, how is it "on you" to shut up and just succeed. Sometimes the most important thing is for people to speak up so things get better.
I agree with you that people should add the caveat of "I am not perfect either and I could have done things differently as well..." That is true. We should own our part of any problem.
p.s. Kara is doing great on the NBC broadcasts compared to most of the other people on the program. People seem to hate her because she "took down" Salazar but you guys also hate Salazar, so I am somewhat confused.

All the Fake News including NYT and RW play along with the narrative. And her 'story' keeps getting dredged back up like clockwork. It's all liberal bias. She peaked to almost the top and then failed. End of story. She should consider getting a real job.
She's finished, so who cares? I don't doubt that she was mistreated by Salazar, but her career would've fizzled out at the same time, even if Salazar never entered the scene. Her body changed and she could no longer do it. Cain had no control over that; it was in her DNA. I think she was very disappointed about that physical development - understandably - but wanted to assign blame to other forces. I don't think she could comprehend how her amazing progress as a teenager could just naturally hit a screeching halt. It was nobody's fault. How many other sensational female teenager girls fail to progress into adulthood? Countless. And it's not limited to girls. I could name many guys who also hit the wall (eating disorders not an issue for guys, usually, as it is for White girls).
I never understood where the Tuohy obsession came from. Cain and Tuohy are from high schools less than one hour apart, so many of the same people who were eyewitnesses to Cain's performances were also eyewitnesses to Tuohy's performances. It seems like they would almost have been bored by Tuohy's races after having watched Cain. If it was me, I would just think, "Yes, she's good, but do you remember what Mary Cain did a couple years ago?" 9th in the World Championships at age 17 and gold at World U20 at age 18 easily trumps anything Tuohy (or any runner other than Decker) ever did in high school.
