you don't know a damn thing about me. You don't know what I do for a living or if I have biracial children. I become mute when I hear public statements made by professional athletes or some hollywood star. They mean nothing to me and I don't care to take their comments and try to make some kind of political statement about it.

Now if the head of a University makes a racial or sexists comment - then he is held accountable by his institution - so if he loses his job - too damn bad.

I didn't know there was such a code of ethics in professional baseball - seems like there is not.

Nobody said here it was ok to make racist statements, because it isn't, but to compare his statements or those of Brooks Johnson as part of the same level of injustice is not only taking things out of context, it is ignorance .

Then why do you compare them and weigh one more heavily? All forms of racism are inappropriate. Just b/c whites done more harm to blacks then blacks have to whites doesn't diminish the claims of innocent whites who have been victims of racism.

Also, you are sorely mistaken if you think race has as little correlation with how one acts as does shoe size. I do not support racism of any form, but I do know that people often tend to congregate with others who are similar to them whether it be color, political views, religious views, economic status, etc. Thus, people tend to have more in common with those that they spend more time with. I am not pretending that racism doesn't exist today b/c the abolishment of Jim Crowe laws didn't convince whites that oh, maybe racism IS unfounded. Personal opinion which affects the lives of many everyday has not changed as fast as law. Thus, I know that a higher percentage of blacks are in poverty b/c of past systems and still b/c of pay differences, and I know that I am complicit in that system. I know that b/c they are in poverty, they have less choices for a way to feed their families. They often do not have parents around to help them with their homework and they grow up in a culture where it often is not cool to study. It brings down your street cred. Thus, it comes down to values and potential options that are influenced or diminished by years of oppression. I know I jumped to a lot of conclusions b/c that is the only way to explain sectors of society, but acknowledgment of these realities is necessary for us to try to remedy them in the future. If you can't identify the problem then it can't be fixed. People need to learn how stupid racism is. They are just afraid of that which they don't know. Also, we need education on education., Pouring more money into inner-city schools will not change anything if the kids don't want to learn. They need to see career paths that are not readily available to them in the current system. They don't dream big b/c they haven't seen big. I would keep going on but I will stop there. Call me a racist if you want, but I promise you that I spend much more time working with blacks to help them than I do whites.

I think that Bill Cosby was speaking to African Americans about doing something about their situation and to stop wallowing...I don't think he was concerned that Barry Bonds said something racist to Mark McQuire. Hardly the point.

You are really going off topic when you talk about criminal activity being done to someone defined by the color of their skin. People who commit criminal acts are not the norm. Racism in our country seems to be the norm.

How many kids watch chancellors and professors on tv? How many of them have their business cards? Now how many kids watch these athletes on tv and collect their baseball cards? Being a part of popular culture allows your voice to be head by many more than if you were in academia. I am not saying that it is right or makes sense, but if kids are going to try to emulate a professional athlete since they are role models then I sure care what they say b/c it shapes our culture.

Barry Bonds and McGuire should be forced to pump steriods into each others asses until their nuts fall off. That will teach them both and raise awareness of the dangers of steriods.

I can't believe the drug accusations against Bonds, this is the first I'm hearing about them. He seems like a man of strong moral fiber, they simply can't be true...

I'll start....school vouchers, federal private school funding, taking away a woman's right to choose, keeping gays from civil unions or marriage, intervening with the right to choose if you want to die or not, and tax write-offs for people who purchase SUV's, cutting funding and programs such as head start and planned parenthood. These are just ways to divide people instead of unify them - all for the sake of the chosen frozen.

1) Bill Cosby HAS condemned black racism as well.

2) YOU keep going off topic by bringing in the kitchen sink about white injustices in the past etc. Clearly the topic has also evolved into one of is there a problem with no one doing anything about black racism in general. In fact, the original poster mentioned this.

Your high school experience reminds me of what those black kids who integrated the schools probably had to deal with - it truly does...excpet you probably didn't have the national guard to back you up. Perhaps you could see a good psychotherapist to help you to deal with the issues it has left you with? Maybe Dr. Alvin Poussaint?...since you're a fan of Bill Cosby and all.

When we start excusing a groups actions simply because others, somewhere else, have had it worse we will not solve a THING. Everyone should be held accountable to the same standards.

Also this whole "what goes around comes around" attitude is so inherently racist in itself. It basically says it's ok to attack innocent whites because of what SOME whites have done.
