Whats wrong with Bowerman. Do we really need to spell it out for you? The Dave Patrick debacle for one. Pissing on his athletes in the shower? At Oregon they think that its only a cute story.
I have no idea what you're talking about. You posted about pissing on his grave
Evidently part of the Bowerman legend is that sometimes when he was showering in the locker room with others in the showers at the same time he would sometimes piss on someone. This is not just a story malmo is making up. I know a couple guys it happened to.
He won the first Olympic Trials 1500 and thought he was on team but there was the second Olympic Trials at altitude where he was 4th.
shows what can happen when there aren’t clear rules. My question is it seems like the “rules” were totally amorphous . Jim Ryun didn’t even run the first Trials.
are there other guys who won the first Trial and didn’t make the team?
Yes. Bill Clark won the first 10,000 and came fourth at Tahoe. He was something like 32 seconds or 23 seconds out of fourth. I just read an interview with him and he said that he actually didn't believe he had made the team at the LA Trial so maybe the disappointment of missing the team wasn't as bad for him as it was for Dave Patrick. He did say he made a mistake in his preparation for the altitude trials. He'd come second at Boston that year and decided to try to make the team at both the 10,000 and marathon. In retrospect he said he'd have just picked one event to prepare for.

Ah I see where you got that idea. By the context of every post I made in that thread you should have realized I meant Dellinger, not Bowerman.
This was your post #10. You were appear to have been referring to Bowerman. Read your entire post. This is the relevant part:
”The wild claim from the bleating sheep that the shoes and training methods were the result of Bowerman’s inventiveness is wild embellishment of the highest order. I knew Bowerman and liked him a lot. Somehow I get the feeling that he’d distance himself from these Scientology-like exaggerations.”

Thats twice you've posted the same thing. Didn't I tell you what I meant to say, not what actually came out? After 20,000 posts don't you think there are some that came out not what I had intended.? I barely know Bowerman and I've never been impressed by him. The closest I ever came to him was jumping in a few workouts when he was coaching Paul Geis and Henry Marsh. I've always felt a creepy vibe emanating from his persona. That thousand yard stare.

Fair enough. But the context of the post would make one wonder if you meant Bowerman. I will leave it alone. You did say Bowerman was a damn good coach.
