Looking at some of the down votes on this thread to perfectly reasonable posts just shows that we have a generation of runners where all they know is running with super shoes and have no clue about the benefits and how current times are not really comparable to pre-super shoes times.
Yes to all of these. I'd also probably had Nico just doesn't have an engaging public persona. Very much like Rupp. I don't recall fans and media going crazy when Rupp first broke 13:00. Nothing wrong with that, both athletes are dedicated to their craft and like keeping things close to their chest.
Your handle is awesome. Props!
Also, I agree with your post. They aren't out there selling the Rupp Show or the Nico Show. They just run!

4 high school runners broke 4 minutes in the history of the US prior to 2011. 6 guys did it last year.
Yeah, but the 4th sub-4 HS miler still holds the record. Are you suggesting that Webb could have run 3:50, or that the new shoes only help those that otherwise would run 4:03?

Yes, both of those. Webb would run faster with super-shoes and super-tracks. The current guys would be slightly slower with old shoes on old tracks. In cycling, technological advantages are called "free speed."
I know that every time I run in my super-shoes, my pace is faster (compared to normal shoes). Every single time. It is just shocking to me that people who haven't raced in super-shoes can still deny that they work. They are better than old shoes. The stats bear that out. They are worth x seconds per mile depending on the athlete.
I am not excited because it’s an indoor 5k time on a speedway oversized track. It means nothing to me unless it’s outdoor. We’ll see how he handles outdoor track races from spring to end of summer.

In your second paragraph, are you referring to track or road racing?

For me, it is the roads. (I don't race on the track anymore.) But for my kids (and their friends), the super-spikes are for real. So both, I guess.
