I don't see McDonald getting the 10k standard. 27:00 is very aggressive. I'm not sure Klecker will get it either. Even in the supershoe era, we haven't seen many non-Africans go sub-27. Both Kincaid and Klecker went for it last year and came up well short

Morgan has a much higher ceiling than Klecker. If Ritz stops treating him like Klecker's b*tch, he will be global factors
Also-think back to prior years with Rupp, Hill, True, Jenkins, Fisher, Knight, Chelimo, McDonald and others indoors. Both Chelimo and Farrah share an indoor PR of 13:09, and almost the entire OAC team ducked under that.
Nuguse just equaled Rupp's all time best indoors, and Rupp was a 3:50/7:30 guy at the time. If Nuguse runs that again outdoors, he's under 12:50. El Guerrouj was a 12:50 guy with (rumored) 1:44 wheels.
Beamish is right at Jager's all time outdoor 5K best, which was run in the thick of his steeple rampage years. Jager's 1500 best was 3:32; don't tell me Beamish can't.
I'd bet if you asked Klecker to choose between 12:54 in the winter, and 12:54 right around championship season, he'd choose the latter.
Garcia Romo? IDK. One-off, I'll say.
Mills has run 3:47, 3:30 and 12:58 in the last six months.
There's a lot to write home about with this OAC team if you DON'T compare it to last year's race. Broaden the perspective, recognize the month, recognize WE DON'T KNOW THEIR TRAINING CYCLES, and give NAZ Elite/DarkSky their props.

Raess waved Geordie by like 3 laps in he was not doing so hot. Mario ran at the back from the start and never really got going. Agreed! Its January in an olympic year. Klecker ran super fast last indoors and he was cooked by summer. NAZ all peaking now and will be non-factor at the trials. 13:02 to 13:06 for men and 2 sub 14:50 for women seem like good results to me.

The difference is Nico Young has developed through years of dedicated training at altitude while being 18-22 years old, and the other two transitioned to smith at the twilight of their careers. I mean, Woody had a spectacular year in 2023, and Galen came back to dominate the 2020 trials and run 2:06 in Chicago after having a gnarly surgery while in his mid 30s. Not sure the criticism is warranted.

Doubtful, but he broke his silence on the race in a Strava post.
“Sorry for the delay in the post race. Actually pretty happy with this one. Been dealing with an upper respiratory tract infection and thought I could still run 13:05 despite. Came just short, started an antibiotic after the race to kick it. 2 years ago I’d be thrilled to open the season in 13:06 off three track workouts. Training has been more aimed to be ready for the 10k and outdoors. One reason we just wanted to just go for the Olympic standard of 13:05 this year versus a race like a year ago. Very stoked for beamish and Yared to hit the standard, also Morgan having a strong start to the year. All in all happy with where I’m at once I kick this sickness, onto Millrose 🫡🫡🫡”

There is no way anyone can even think the OAC underperformed tonight. What other team has 6 guys under 13:08? Sure its not the standard and sure some people didn't PR but honestly if you can run a 13:08 indoor you can run 13:05 outdoor.
