She can coach her sister, it's her sister. It's way more appropriate than Jerry and Shalane continuing to coach her while she serves a ban. Or frankly, any other coach.
What's not appropriate is her bringing Shelby around her college team for a "motivational talk" like she did at UC-Santa Barbara, forcing her athletes to sit through a talk and keep company with a drug cheat. It puts her team in an unfair position.
No one should coach any doper during their ban, and definitely no professional coach. A ban is not just for racing, but also for training with a team. That's why she pretended all the time to coincidentally bump into her old teammates on the road as well as on the track, and that's also why GDS left BTC. Not all athletes want to be close to a banned doper.
“The lack of boundaries surrounding a banned athlete, my inability to enforce my own boundaries, the poor communication surrounding this process, and the disregard for the BTC athletes’ input were the main reasons for my departure,” she says.
The "motivational talk" of course was another low.
Fair point.
I'm definitely of the view that Shelby is an obvious doper who got way too much leniency from running media because she's white, and pretty and American.
I remember the GDS thing when it happened, and while it was irritated for her, I was glad she stood up for herself and told the story to the press. No more carrying water for Shelby and the losers who want to cover for her. GDS was wrong and she knew it, and she acted accordingly.
I feel the same about Shayla's college athletes. If I were one of them I'd understand why she'd want to help her sister, but I wouldn't want to be around Shelby. it's a real problem if Shayla is ever bringing that into Iowa's camp like she did Santa Barbara.

UGH Correction: GDS was *wronged. NOT wrong, *wronged. GDS was right.
The media doesn't establish the penalty. I hope Shelby hangs around with the team. She is an Iowa girl who holds state and national records. The team could really benefit from hearing about her perseverance.
People in the know know that she was just doing what every other top professional athlete does to be competitive at that level. This forum seems to think their favorite "clean" athletes are beating top doped-up athletes because they have half a brain or just wish to remain naive.
Lots of drug cheat supporters here. Well, to each their own.
List your top 5 favorite runners. I bet someone here can find somehting they don't like about them.
Shelby was one of my favorite runners to watch as an American. Assuming she still has 1500m wheels we can actually threaten the world globally when she competes for us.
Imagine sending Purrier Houlihan and Wiley all in 3:56ish shape. We will finally get a medal. That is what I care about. Her life doesn't have to end because she tested positive. She is obviously being tested more now so theres definitely no reason to doubt what I am seeing even moreso. SO I am actually doubling down as one of her bigger fans when she returns.

This is actually not true. USADA tested her 18 times in 2019, and 19 times in 2020 before the AIU finally nabbed her. This year (updated Dec 28) they only tested her 9 times. So it is actually easier for her now to load up than it was in 2019/20.
It is her sister after all. Not so easy to just turn your back on your family, especially since she probably believes her.
One day the truth will come out. It always takes time. A WADA official with evil intentions probably set her up to fail that drug test. All of the other evidence points to her being innocent.
Oh cool, a new conspiracy theory without any evidence whatsoever. A WADA official? When do you guys think a WADA official could have intercepted and exchanged the vial on its way from the AIU tester to the Montreal lab?
And how would he know how exactly that vial including all data on the sticker looked like? Or do you propose he peeled of the sticker and re-attached it without a trace? Or do you propose he opened the sealed vial, added 1 mg nandrolone, and re-sealed it without a trace?
Last but not least, how would you know how many tests Shelburrito missed? And did she actually recognize the tester? After all they came from the AIU that time, not her regular USADA buddies.
The Shelby story will always suck. It's such a waste of a rare American talent.
Now--stop, because I know what you're thinking. Yes, I think she cheated. Yes, it is HER fault. Yes, the AIU and CAS made the right and only call. Yes, she should serve a ban.
But this is a tragedy for the American version of the sport and NO it is not a tragedy for Shelby herself, who brought this upon herself entirely.
But think about it in terms of her raw talent. Shelby was a national class XC runner, and a 400 meter state champion running a 55. She won the state XC title and the state 400m title in a state that isn't exactly small and empty. That speed combined with that engine is something that, besides Mary Cain, I can't think of another athlete to have it who is American.
I wish she would tell the truth. If it was a supplement she mistakenly took, just say it. If she had been doping just say it. No one in their right mind believes that she is innocent or this is mistaken in any way. All dopers start off as gifted athletes. doesn't mean they didn't dope. I'm not sure what four years spent meandering around training for nothing, not doing anything productive can do to your mental health, while people all around you pursue goals. Telling the truth can have a positive impact on the sport and change it for future generations.
