Brosnan was a very good high school coach. No question about it. But his subsequent failure at the college level and his current employment status outweighs his past performance.

my guess is that soles is better at building teams, but Brosnan might be better at squeezing every drop out of an individual runner.

On, heard it was happening and came in with the NIL to keep Nike from getting the Youngs.

The group was originally planned to be given to a different coach as a Bowerman replacement, but Sean’s rockstar personality won out.

Big question is what will the group be called?

Fake news. Bronsan bros keep pushing this agenda when he’s just using his wife’s income and those cabins he owns for summer running camps. For the umpteenth time: he was fired from a dream gig at UCLA and he won’t be coaching again, anywhere. That’s it.

What on Earth are you talking about? Bronson coached at NBP for what, 6-7 years max? You’re honestly willing to commit to the statement that he produced more sub 9:00 milers than some of the coaches who have been bringing teams to NXN since before Brosnan was even out of college?

How about this? He’s coached more sub840 guys than anyone in history. Anyone who hates on Brosnan as a coach doesn’t understand the sport.

Where are all the other high schools with 3 or more sub-9 guys? Hammond, Indiana is one. Which others have there been? Newbury Park is the only high school to have sets of brothers? It was not much of a program for a long time before Brosnan got there. It was the greatest high school xc team ever for several years. Three different national xc individual champions! Multiple national team titles. 3:39/3:56/4:00/7:56/7:57/8:03/8:32-33/8:35/8:38/8:44/8:52 .... The guy is an absolute legend. If he is not, then no high school coach has ever been one.

Do we need to resurface the stats of the how good the incoming talent was before he got there vs when he was there? Most schools that have more than 10 kids who have broken 5:00 in the 1600, with several of them in the 4:4x’s would do pretty darn well. They didn’t have those kind of kids going there before and neither has any other high school in history. If you have the best incoming talent at one school ever, there’s a relatively good chance they will turn into the best high school team ever. He was dealt a royal flush, and not just the Youngs and Sahlmans, but the other long list of kids that were total studs before they came to Newbury. That doesn’t diminish the job he did. He coached them well and got a lot out of some really good kids, which not every coach could have.

Yes he is a legend. That means he is in the past. He did a nice job but blew it at the college level.

Aside from the two families - why was he good? You want good coaching? Look at teams that are alwasy in top5 not just because a special family comes through. He knew he was about to revert and he bailed to try to parlay it and he failed

A special family doesn’t just pop out fast times. You’re talking about some of the fastest times in High School Distance running history. I don’t care what your last name is you have to have the coaching to run that fast.

Your exaggerated statement is the reverse of what Brosnan has done. Brosnan has tried to take 100% credit for what those athletes have achieved with little to no credit going to the athletes.

The Young's and the Sahlman's are some of the most talented high school distance runners ever. This is factual. 99.9999999999999% of the USA population could do Brosnan's exact training and would never get close to them. They ran fast before joining Brosnan's team, he didn't create them.

You make it seem like Brosnan could coach any team in the nation to win NXN. Then go do it, Sean! Yeah you'd prefer to coach college or pro, but right now you are unemployed. Going back to high school coaching, if only temporarily, would give him a chance to make his resume even stronger for his next job. Right now he's just sitting at home wasting time.
