The Washington Post isn't the only source of this story. Dan Roan, a BBC journalist of good standing, has stated that the athlete under suspicion is male. He has seen the indictment documentation first-hand.

I agree that Hughes is a better fit. Anguilla is a far smaller island than Jamaica. Also, it is unlikely that Barrett - who is from Jamaica - would use the words "a small island" to describe his homeland.

Part of me believes people implicated in this case try to drop alternate breadcrumbs to distract from the actual evidence of this investigation.

You have to think, (use your GD brain you imbeciles) - this would more than likely have to be a US based British Athlete.
Who would that be? In my mind there are 3 potentials - OF WHICH - are already tied to a dirty suspect group.

Zharnel Hughes was not focused on the 200 in 2021, and him and NMB have the same 400m PB, so it could easily be NMB.

Oh, I've just noticed in the WashingtonPost article - the athlete from a small island and the one focusing on 200 are different conversations. One athlete from a small island looking to get fast in the 100, and a different athlete who is focusing on the 200 but can run a good 100 and 400. I'm going to assume that the British athlete is the 2nd one (NMB), Zharnel had already made multiple 100 and 200 finals before Tokyo so I don't think he'd be looking for a "get fast quick" method right before the Olympics.

It would take me a very long time to think of all the top athletes I’ve worked closely with over the years. Several earned medals and won major championships. I know this sport and a very solid majority of the athletes, outside of the aforementioned unsavoury states, do it within the rules.

Not saying it's definitely him but using 'speaks about his religion often' as a reason why he would never dope is insane.

No way. There's no indication he is even connected to the parties under suspicion right now. He lives on the west coast and as far as I understand, trains by himself with a local track club.

Lets lay out the arguments for each person:

NMB: Good 100, 200, 400. That's pretty much it. I hope it's not him, he seems like a really great guy.

Gemili: Rana Reider, Motivation to dope, connection to the other athletes under suspicion. However, No 400 PR on record. "Small island" is more likely to refer to the UK than Jamaica. Also, he got injured in the first round of the 200 so whatever he did obviously didn't work too well.

Hughes: Huge improvement over the past few years. "Small island" could mean Jamaica. However, Hughes is a nationally-known figure after breaking the British 100/200 records this year and winning Bronze in Budapest. If his name was anywhere on documentation of this nature, British media, especially the tabloids would be ALL OVER IT. I believe that if it was Hughes, we would already know about it.

My opinion: Gemili. Seems like a pretty open and shut case.

By the way, this looks really bad for Tumbleweed track club. Like, its obvious but I just haven't seen anyone else mention it. There is gonna be a lot of heat on Sani-Brown, Bromell, and Coleman, if there wasn't already.

You must be new to letsrun. Athletes of Western European descent don't cheat, how could they? They don't have the resources or incentive to do so, or a history of doing so from other sports, like cycling.... oh, whoops.

If it's Hughes, the British press and UK Athletics will just brush the incident off because he's not from the UK. UK Athletics will mention looking into processes, any lessons that can be learned, blah blah, and recommend that athletes train closer to the 'safety' of Loughborough and UKAD.
