Absolutely. POCs need places to get away from whites and their aggression and oppression. I can't think of a better place to stay away from white people than at a holiday party where whites are typically at their worst.
I go to many large work-related holiday parties every year, and as a black person would love a space to celebrate without a high probability of being exposed to racism.
My white friends don't share this interest, because they haven't experienced violent and oppressive racism throughout their lives.
It's cute: this thread shows exactly why these spaces are needed. (As does the LR board on a regular basis.)
Statistically, you're more likely to be a victim of violent crime from a fellow black person... MUCH more likely.
If you think the above fact is uncomfortable or "racist," then we should advocate for a color-blind society. If you want a race-conscious society, you won't like the result.

I think it’s silly to have such a party, but there isn’t an inherent reason not to have an event for people of color at work. A slighted white councillor could ask for at least one December office party that also includes whites, and that would be a reasonable request, but truth is nobody really likes or cares about office parties.
Affinity groups have always worked asymmetrically, e.g., you can have ladies nights but it’s just not hot to have men-only events in part because even the men don’t care for sausage fests; likewise white people don’t care to have white-only events for obvious reasons.

I've read somewhere (maybe here?) that you have to have some black people at a white holiday party, otherwise there is no one to oppress.
My favorite excuse from her is that this is a standing group and they have been doing it for a while now, just a group of specific associates getting together.
Same could have been said by any racist group in American history. You can imagine the KKK said that many times: "we are just getting together with a few of our similar like-minded associates, we've been doing it for years."
But if it's paid for with city funds and city organized (like her paid assistant sending out the invites) then it can't discriminate based on race. Crazy that they spell it out on the invitation even.

Racism exists but it's hardly ever violent in North American. Please tell me how you've expeirence violent racism throughout your life - that means multiple times.
White people experience impactful racism way more often in the year 2023 than black. Every time they apply for a job, a college, etc.

Question for Dems - how do you know/decide who is white or colored? I am 1/4 Hispanic and 4% Jewish but I look white. At some point, whites need to start advocating for themselves just like any other race. Not saying they need to claim victim or minority status, but they shouldn't put up with being discriminated against in a way no other color would accept.
