This all-time collegiate top 10 W indoor 3000m list should look a bit different 24 hrs from now.
1 Katelyn Tuohy 8:35.20 2 Karissa Schweizer 8:41.60 3 Jenny Barringer 8:42.03 4 Hilda Olemomoi 8:45.50* 5 Alicia Monson 8:45.97 6 Lauren Ryan 8:47.88 7 Sally Kipyego 8:48.77 8 Kim Smith 8:49.18 9 Parker Valby 8:49.71 10 Courtney Wayment 8:50.05 *Ran a shorter distance (started in outside alley and cut-in one turn earlier than assigned) [omitted from list by US T&F/XC Coaches Assn]
Wouldn't surprise me if 4-5 runners hit 8:49.xx. I'm looking for an 8:45 from Markezich. Hope I underestimated her again!
Perhaps the goal is not to pace a singular heat for just 2 women? A 15:00 target would blow up the entire field say 3-4 women. My bet is A few people go around the pacer early and the majority the field tucks in behind Mackey and all run NCAA qualifiers.

I don't know why people keep insisting that Valby is going to go around the pacer. Her coach has a say in the pace being set; she is the XC champion. They will pace it for whatever is requested. I think she is targeting Sisson's indoor record of 15:12, not 15:00.
Everyone is not going with that pace. 15:15 was the top time in the NCAA last season. The majority of the field can't run 15:15 and we will see a chase pack form relatively early.
What would be interesting is if Mackay stays in the race.

Why do you think the pace was relaxed from what was stated earlier?

I thought the original pace was 15:20 (which btw is still on the meet information page) and has now been oved to 15:12-18? Seems to me somebody asked it to be faster.

It was changed from the originally stated 15:12, to 15:15-15:18.
