Yobes Ondieki (2, 3, 2) He won every other collegiate cross country race he ever ran and was later first man under 27:00 in 10,000.
Michael Musyoki (2, 6, 30, 2) He later won an Olympic bronze in the 10,000.
I still remember back when I was a high school xc runner getting the Runners World that reported his sub-27:00. I want to say it was 26:58? but am too lazy to look it up. I think that was the first time I really understood that we are not all the same.
Going back years ago, Marc Hunter was pretty solid. Marc is Drew Hunter’s dad.
Marc ran for Cleveland State after transferring from Kent State. His junior year he finished 4th and was the first American. Kenyans dominated that year taking 4 of the top 10 spots with a couple of Irishmen in the top 10 also. He was 6th his senior year and also repped the US at the World XC championships that year.
Joan and Marc Hunter used to post here all the time (when they coached at Loudoun Valley).
I actually think he wouldn’t win. If Samuel came in as a 27:20 guy and couldn’t win then I’m not sure Bekele would be able to. In fact it’s possible he wouldn’t be in OSUs top 5 this year.
Kenenisa would send a request to the NCAA governing bodies to create a second race on a short course just so that he could double back on consecutive days and win both.

He and his wife used to post on this very website when they coached at Loudoun Valley. Do they still post here?
