We've long stated that coaching threads are the hardest to moderate as people get really fired up. Ivy League threads are probably a close second. Combine the two and it's difficult. As a result, we're requiring registration to post moving forward. Please remember you are talking about real people.

Welcome to the party muffnulty! Its f’ing nuts but are correct that your job is safe and power will never be given to the athletes. Still, the mutiny must sting a little.
It is amazing that the hire was made to begin with - I agree. If you look back through this thread, you will see the more cynical implication that Dobson intentionally hired an incompetent coach to hamstring the distance sect of the team, since Ben True (who was already helping the team while they were left without a coach last fall) was completely discarded from the applicant pool. Hopefully True decided it was better not to work under Dobson, but that still leaves us with many questions. We still don't know what happened between Justin Wood and Dobson, but the fallout was nasty before McNulty stepped on campus. If nobody wanted McNulty's position already and the students are rallying to remove a coach who was literally the best the athletic department could do, then so much the worse for the Director of T&F.
And a small appurtenance. The psychotic rambling of Just the Fax is embarrassing and I'm not sure how much worse this will have to get before it gets better.
THE HISTORY OF MCNULTY:
The press release announcing McNulty's hiring at DM: "While at Kentucky, he was a four-year athlete in cross country and track and field."
Transylvania press release: "McNulty competed in cross country and track and field for the University of Kentucky during his collegiate days."
Duke online bio: "McNulty also enjoyed a successful career as a competitor, spending four years as a member of Kentucky's cross country and track & field programs."
All of those public statements would have been based off of McNulty's resume and/or other information he provided to the schools. He would have reviewed and approved the public statements.
There are no reported races by McNulty in college and he is not listed on any of the rosters for any of the reporting services.
After using that to get ahead and now that he has a big time gig, perhaps McNulty is trying to clean-up his resume. His DM bio now reads: "While at Kentucky, he spent one year on the cross country and track & field programs before becoming a student manager for a year and a half."
This would be a firing offense at most places of employment. Let's see if it is at DM.
The entire team has requested that McNulty resign.
The team should demand that he be replaced. He should resign. He should be fired.
Are you still at it? He isn't leaving. You are only damaging your own chances to transfer.
Post Facts. Not Threats.
Yes, of course, it's embarrassing but who really cares? Your threatening posture is hurting your ability to receive sympathy from the small pool of people invested in trying to help the program. And you are still helplessly missing the point about exactly where the buck stops.
Hint: it isn't with McNulty.

It is going to take a monumental coaching effort to prove McNulty can develop talent and make Hanover a desired location for top distance recruits again.
The two highlights since McNulty joined have been Eric Gibson setting the 1k school record (2:21) and DJ Matusz winning the Heps outdoor 800. Both of these results were either immediately followed by a stress injury or occurred when a stress injury already been sustained. So is that good or bad coaching? I'm not sure.
Let's be clear...Wood was no savior of the Dartmouth program either.
While it's uncertain exactly he was fired, the way to build a distance powerhouse is NOT by pissing off your boss - the director of track and field and XC. Even if you are correct about what you are fighting for, sometimes you just have to take no for an answer.
There's a reason that Wood hasn't landed another job yet. He was another D3 coach that was underqualified for D1, especially a strong team like Dartmouth. He hasn't gotten another job because he is an undesirable candidate.
McNulty is proving himself as a much worse coach than Wood, but firing Wood wasn't the issue. The issue was not hiring someone more qualified in the first place - in either of the job searches.

If you know why he was fired ONE DAY before the cross country started practicing, then please share.
But the facts remain the same. The first step to building a great program is to NOT GET FIRED AFTER A YEAR. Doesn't matter why you get fired, just behave in the way your boss asks.
That may mean it takes longer to build a team because you have to play by your boss's rules. Instead of rebuilding in 5 years, maybe it takes 10. Rome wasn't built in a day. But you don't throw a temper tantrum and get fired after 1 year. Wood will never coach in the NCAA again.
Obvious who gains from this crusade. Cruella de Vil & co. You might not want to throw stones at glass houses with the kinds of skeletons that exist.

Brosnan claimed to be a multiple time AA. It didn't hurt his coaching ability.
Brosnan was fired over ethics. Same will be true for McNulty. Difference will be that no one will ask McNulty to coach them.
