The 2011 movie Moneyball is all about the Beane scandal...I looked the spelling up.. it's Beane
No the 2011 movie Moneyball is all about using data analytics in player evaluations.
Ok. Fair enough. I'll retract moneyball. Think of any other scandal surrounding a person whether coach, player or trainer, and that's why not to mention Salazar.
Cheating? Is there ANY proof that Salazar cheated as an athlete?
"USADA asked Salazar to rule out personal use of testosterone before the last major race that he won. Mr. Salazar, however, did not entirely dispel the possibility he used testosterone while he was competing, as he claimed to be unable to recall when he first used testosterone and refused to state that his first use of testosterone came after his participation in the Comrades Marathon, a race he won in late 1994."

come on who cares if he was taking testosterone for Comrades if he was clean before that, that's not a real race
Let's be clear. This is an East Coast marathon with an East Coast shoe sponsor (NB). Mentioning Alberto even if he was a champion for three years brings back Salazar and his scandal and NOP. Can't we get a break from NIKE for one race?
I hope Rupp mentions in the broadcast the fact that Salazar won the NYC Marathon 3 times.
Hope Des would then mention to Galen the following: His shady biological passport of a few years ago (passportS some claim), his "supplements" delivered by mail in cut out books by a shady alleged coach, using testosterone as a TEEN BOY is high school, using thyroid meds, cheating with L-Cartinine drips, using asthma meds (a good track athlete should have ZERO lung issues).
Hope she also mentions that because of his association with Salazar and all of the things mentioned above, that ALL of his race results are followed by a big ASTERISK* and theresults do not count.
Are you not aware that Des was on thyroid medication as well?

Are you not aware that there is a lot more to the cloud around Rupp/NOP than merely “being on thyroid medication”?
Rupp is going to finally come out of his shell and deliver one of the most verbose and eloquent marathon commentaries ever put to a 21st century television:
"They fly together, three men: Cheserek, Kamworor, and Chebet: stride for stride, breath for breath, wildly intimate and yet fiercely opposed to one another, each striving for victory. Thoughts and hopes flit through the mind of each man, as their lungs burn and legs grow heavy with the weight of great strain and struggle. Back to you, Des."
And then Des is going to go all-in on the blue-collar everyman vibes:
"Geez Galen, I mean these guys are really pushing it out there! Three guys, just like you and me, out for a long November run through the streets of NYC. These guys worked so hard, so many late nights and early mornings, to give the crowds something to cheer for today. Look at'em go! Boy, they must really be pushing!"
We wish. They're probably going to stick Des and Rupp in the motocart with the lead packs. They're going to get one minute each at the beginning, which will be drowned out by technical difficulties. Awkwardness ensues. And then a couple substantive lines toward the end. Something about breathing. Des will say so and so is running "well within" themselves. I think Rupp will be pretty good even with the little time he will get. THERE WILL BE NO BANTER between him and Des.
Look how many people they have for coverage: The trio [Des, Galen and wheelchair commentator] will be accompanied by SportsCenter anchors Hannah Storm and John Anderson, and Olympians Carrie Tollefson and Juan Luis Barrios. Storm will return to host the program for the first time since 2015 with Anderson, Tollefson, and Barrios, who is new to the commentary team, in the broadcast booth as analysts for all four professional races. A talented array of reporters including veteran Olympics commentator Lewis Johnson, Peloton instructor and marathoner Becs Gentry in her broadcast debut, and ABC7’s Eyewitness News reporters Ryan Field, Sam Ryan, Anthony Johnson, Kemberly Richardson, Michelle Charlesworth, Dani Beckstrom, Brittany Bell, and Josh Einiger will be present at the start, finish, along the course, and in the sky.
I cant spectulate as to anyone being clean or not. It does seem like Rupp gets a lot more scrutiny than his peers. He could have done something wrong but it seems like lots of people worked closely with Salazar , used Dr. Brown, used thyroid meds or supplements like Testoboost and / or trained & coached people who tested positive or were found to have violated rules. But Rupp gets more attention. Other prominent coaches gave a misleading press conference about a ban and are treated very well here.
Otherwise let's also give a shout-out to WR holder Rosie Ruiz as well, ok?
If he mentions Rosie Ruiz as the WR holder, he can mention Salazar.
Cheating is cheating.
Are you saying that Salazar cheated to win his three NYC Marathons?
Would that be that far a leap to suspect this? Look what he did as a coach. Do you think he was 100% clean for his entire athletic career, then decided to become a mad scientist after retiring? Highly unlikely.......

Why do you think that is? Rupp was targeted while in high school. He was Salazar's star athlete for a long time. Who do you think was going to benefit the most from Sleazy Al's "experiments?" The athletes that don't win/get sponsorships, etc.? Please......
Don't forget the flagged biological passports. Athletes that are clean don't have a flagged anything. This should have been pursued further. In this day and age, it most likely would have.
Al liked to "push the envelope," always staying ahead thinking he outsmarted everyone.....until he finally got caught up in some stuff. The powers that be got rid of this example what is wrong with sports these days. Good riddance, I say.
The real question is why doesn’t the NYCM hire professional commentators instead of former athletes who *might* be good. There are really good commentators out there who should be calling the race.
It would be difficult to do this for a marathon. Both Linden and Rupp have run a marathon at a highly competitive time and Linden has won in crazy difficult elements regardless of time.
No matter how much homework and research a professional commentator does, for the marathon, they don't have enough actual race nuance to bring to the masses.
Those who don't run marathons don't understand why water bottles accidentally scattered from a table are detrimental to some in the field. They can't guide you through what the proverbial wall actually is like in experience and why mitigating lactic acid buildup is so important.
They can't tell you the strategy as to why an elite will run a14:26 final 5k after a 14:52 5k before it. And mostly, they can't tell you what it's like to have trained with a competing elite or someone who trained with that elite.
It should be a former marathoner..or in this case..two.
Having run fast does not make you good at commenting a race live nor does it make you good at explaining the nuances and subtleties of a race, its moves and its breaks. Professional communicators can do this better.
I would prefer actually being able to see those moves and breaks regardless of the commentary, so let’s hope for a good broadcast.

You just proved my point. Others had flagged biological passports and pushed the envelope with the same coach, doctors, had anctual doping busts, etc. and you addressed none of it. Not saying one person is clean or another isn’t. Just seems naive about bigger picture.
They'll probably be cordial and talk about the race, which you pointed out will be 2 hrs of wheel chair racing anyways. Because that's what matters in these races. That's what brings the fans... can't wait to see the epic blowdown where one guy does his thing and wins all 'marathons' in repeat weeks by dozens of minutes or hours. Must be so tough.
I'm sure there will be no cross talk between the presenters because that's not what they're there for. Surprised that Rupp gets the job so easily. I mean Des and Kara have at least been working in broadcasting/commentary for a while, this is Rupp's first one?
Anyways I'm sure he'll be great. I hope he knows all about Wheel chairing or at least the best thing he could say would be the link to the world feed so we can actually watch the runners race.
