What do you think law school teaches? It's a 3 year exercise in reading comprehension and critical thinking. You learn to interpret existing laws (reading comprehension) and apply them to a set of facts (critical thinking)
You don't learn the "legal system" it's too vast.
Why would you want a lawyer fresh out of law school? You sound pretty naive about how the world works.

Nobody said that.
You are implying that reading comprehension and critical thinking are all that matters. Actually knowing something about the law ahead of time (law school and on the job learning) really matter. It is like having a high natural vo2 and never running. The guy with similar natural talent but who is also training will have a large advantage.
We have lawyers because it’s better than settling disputes with duels.
This would only be better if the lawyers had duels. Instead they just argue a bit, then they both collect a bunch of cash and have lunch with the judge.
Why go see a doctor if you can just search your symptoms on the internet? Why got to a surgeon when you have a steak knife at home? Why go to a car mechanic if you own a wrench? Why have an engineer design a bridge instead of a high school kid? Why have a accountant do the books when it is just adding and subtracting? Why have an accredited teacher in school when any adult knows all that stuff? Why have an airline pilot fly a plane when anybody can pull back on the stick?
If people could read or think, lawyers would be useless.
That's basically true.
Furthermore, law school is nothing more than a money making scheme to justify the huge salaries of these "law school" professors. Lol.
Abe Lincoln never went to law school & taught himself in law so well that he smoked the bar exam. 👍
I've study law for decades as a hobby & know as much as most attorneys (and I've met some really dumb attorneys in my day). But if I wanted to start practicing law - society says hold on here a minute...where's your law school diploma? Lol.
It's all a money making scheme!
What you missed is that you should have added more "lol" to your lol school applications, then you could have gone to lol school, too.
(Also, Lincoln passed [not, um, "smoked"] the bar exam when Illinois was a frontier state, had no law schools, and the exam was just a hair above a literacy test; people who wrote things like "I've study law" might not have made it, despite studying the law as a hobby for like a real long time and stuff and junk.)
