Not at all. He is a sit and kicker in 3:35 races - these don't happen no more at world level (except qualifying rounds).
he is. he just hasn't been able to train well enough to kick in a 3:30 type of race. he needs more volume, than he will look like Nordas on the home stretch.
Right .... So he doesn't have the strength to kick in a 3:30 race because he hasn't trained well enough or with enough volume.
Or does not have the strength to run sub 13:00 or sub 7:30 at the present time.
That doesn't strike me as a strength runner - think somebody like Cheruiyot 2019 who leads from end to end, clocking 56 laps, and winning in 3:29 with no need for a kick. THAT is strength.
So everyone should be able to just continuously PR every day of the year, regardless of circumstance?
I agree, the expectations that guys will PR over PR every race even in set ups is totally unreasonable.
If you re-parse my logic, you'll see I'm implying the entire season is against PB's that reflect the full potential of the athlete.
If you peak for rounds year after year, that excludes ever peaking for time trials. Before you know it, you're past your career peak and will never know how fast you could have gone.
That is very important to the sport, so people can argue about those unknowns. Hocker will probably retire with an unran 3:27 in his past.
