Many schools didn't respond to him and 3 of the ones he visited only offered walk-ons while one didn't even offer a roster spot. I am not complaining. Just pointing out the facts of how bad coaches are at recruiting. The same schools signed slower guys than him while he got away.

Another poster touched this a bit, but it's really tough to have your breakout late Sr year, as most of the offers are long gone by then. '24 commits already happening and formal commit day is Nov1'23 for the class of '24, even track recruits. Most recruiting decisions are based on Jr yr xc/ind/out and a bit from Sr xc, if someone breaks out at FL/nxn.
I had a kid take a gap year, and then was able to include Sr yr track in his recruiting info. Worked in this case as gap year also fit well with family wishes etc. If you have a particular dream school, you could try walking on looking for future money based on performance.
