A stress reaction in the hip/femur is minimum 6 weeks, and that's if its caught super early and it's lower on the femur. A stress reaction in the the hip area, and it's recovery, is nothing like a stress reaction in the shin or foot.
Also, if it became a fracture, it's a minimum of 12 weeks, possibly a good bit longer.
The odds of some underdog who's never made the team before, like Morgan Beadlescomb or Manz are still ridiculously low with Klecker, Kincaid doubling and Chelimo and Nur still in top shape.
A stress injury would refer to a "stress reaction", which if handled correctly, has a 2 week recovery period, as opposed to the 6-8 of a stress fracture.

Hated seeing the news this morning. Wondering if he got a stress reaction and came back from it too soon because he wanted to qualify for Worlds, making it flare up. My older daughter had a stress reaction during high school track, and it derailed her freshman season. It was hard for her to sit it out. I can only imagine how awful it is for Grant given the timing of it. Also starting to wonder if he might do better if he left BTC and went elsewhere.
The success that Woody has had must plant a seed of doubt, on top of the transition to Eugene. The group is in significant flux, he’s always running around town solo. Maybe that’s his preference. Maybe he has lost some of his better friends. Maybe having Solinski will help. Maybe he needs a different stimulus and environment.

Bone stress injuries are real. There is a molecular and physical continuum of bone damage that ranges from normal remodeling to what Lawrence Taylor did to Joe Theisman.

He made his typical hard move 3 laps out because he doesn't have a great kick. This year they matched him because the rest of the guys are better than last year. They didn't let him drop them in a otherwise slow race.
You can obviously run on a femoral stress reaction (if that what he has) and it's a burrito sized excuse. I guarantee I he takes 3rd in the 10k, he would have lined up for the 5k as well. Otherwise it wouldn't have mattered if he took 3rd or 4th in the 10k because with said injury, he's not going to worlds no matter what

If he had a stress reaction in the Femur, it probably did affect his performance, and not necessarily because of pain. With a stress reaction (and also fracture, of course) the quad muscles will try to protect the injury and will become very tight and sore, which severely effects stride and power. This is why the injury is sometimes misdiagnosed; people think they have a muscle strain.
Whatever else you think about Schumacher, we know he does not adapt training for individuals. So many athletes have left BTC recently saying they needed training adjustments and Jerry wasn't willing to listen. Get with the program or get off. Now he's sent three athletes to USAs who are either injured or undercooked (Frerichs, Schweizer, Fisher), another who has been suffering with RED-S over the last year, and Teare who had no confidence in his ability to perform when it mattered. Maybe the time has come for "the programme" to be put to bed and individual training plans set-up instead.

I have also had a femoral stress fracture and it did not affect his final 100. He just fell apart like he did a lot last year. Check out the splits, he didn't conveniently feel it the last 100 after running a similar pace the previous 1100 meters. It doesn't get worse if you go from running 60-59 down to 58 pace like he did. He just can't physically close as fast as the others
Interesting about Fisher running solo. I suppose there could be any number of reasons for that. One thing I noticed is he barely posts on Instagram anymore. Most of his Instagram content is in his stories vs. on his main/news feed. His last regular post was back in November, a group shot with other Nike athletes. Running at the level they run at there is a fine line between top performance and injury. Injuries happen to all of us and more so to the elite. Let’s see how he recovers and how he is running by July 2024 before we judge
