I was about to say that Africans aren't coming over here for a tiny partial scholarship. But women's track has like 17 scholarships so it shouldn't be too tough to throw a scholarship at a few other good Africans. But for the men's side with only 12.5 scholarships, you're really crushing your track team's dreams of being successful if you're throwing full scholarships at a bunch of distance runners. They better sweep the podium at conference, but at least a 14:40 is clearly worth it. When I first read the title I thought it was a male recruit, and thought "big whoop", but as a female that is a very big whoop.

Look at the other current recruits and their rosters in the Southern states, it's not just Alabama as I've watched these meets first hand.

I don't accuse everyone. And I admit where I am wrong. But I will say this: If you are recruiting a Kenyan pro race runner to run in college then chances are you are recruiting a runner familiar with the widespread Kenyan doping practices. I am not the one who made Kenyan athletics so dirty and corrupt that they were thisclose to a national ban. I guess we will see. My guess is it will be on the level.

And one more thing. I care nothing about some indignant Alabama alumni's hurt feelings. If you are going to take shortcuts in recruiting and recruit from well known doping cesspools like Kenya or Ethiopia (despite the apologists on this board), then you get deserved criticism. Again, I did not create the problem or the pathetic attempts to elide over them.

Schools that recruit foreigners are usually the ones that can't get top American talent to come.
Should colleges no longer recruit from doping cesspools like Indiana, Alaska, Oregon and California?

Your sad deflections aside, from what I am reading she ran in DL races. Was that wrong? If not I have a definite opinion about that. That does not mean it will carry over however.

Thought for a minute, you were back from ban. The schools that recently have gone the international route New Mexico, Alabama, San Francisco, Iowa St, Iona, Bradley are all schools that will have a hard time attracting top American high school seniors. Their recruiters reach out to all the top internationals, but the best usually choose pro racing over college. Some exceptions were Rono, Nyambui, Cheserek, KURGAT, Kipyego more recently Chelangat, Wildschuut, Tuntivate, Garcia-Romo, Hull, O'Sullivan, Hicks, Robinson, Fay, Maatoug. If you can get a foreign pro great, if not get a second tier foreigner and if that won't work, you settle for a third tier American. This recruiting strategy is not new.

I have no problem with schools recruiting internationally, but taking athletes that clearly have multiple compliance issues is just an aweful look especially when you also try to claim they are freshman eligibility.

Every other runner who went this route from Kenya that I heard of fifirst ran JUCO. Seems like this athlete bypassed that.

I don't know what all the rules are, but I thought I read that she was actually on staff at a university. So, coming in as a frosh does seem a little weird if that is true.

My hunch is that the XC title will be very competitive this season. Valby crushed everyone in the sweltering heat at NCAAs, Cherop looks to be legit. And then other up and comers like Bunnage, Olemomoi, O Sullivan who could surprise.
Hard to say where Tuohy is at after NCAAs and USATF. Hopefully she rested and is back to improving again.
