have been coaching for 25 years and have had about 100 girls go D1 for track. I know a bit more about the schools and recruiting standards than you. No schools are providing large scholarships for 5 minute girls. Very few are giving anything at all. I had one senior break 5 this spring and she is walking on at our state school. Very few schools responded to her. I have one junior who broke 5. She contacted every school in the B10 and ACC as well as about 20 additional schools in the MW and East Coast. She has heard back from a handful.
I flat out DON'T believe you.
These two girls supposedly broke 5 in the mile. Unless there's some tarnish imagine your program has that you're not aware of, for them not to receive offers is ridiculous if you truly contacted "every school in the big 10 and ACC and 20 additions MW schools/east coast." The chances of that actually being true is insane. Did you wait until July to contact them or something?
Do they have 1.5 GPAs or something? Do they have obviously eating or injury issues? Overbearing parent or coach? These are the only reasons I can think of where myself and a lot of the coaches I talk to about recruiting regularly would not consider an athlete.
It drives me nuts when coaches make these stories up. What's the point of it? To brag about imaginary athletes running fast? To spread false information about recruiting to strangers? What is it?
