Automatic qualification

Automatic qualification, as listed in this section, shall not abrograte any entry requirements other than the qualifying requirements for a championships. Any athlete who attains any of the following shall be afforded automatic qualification into a USA Indoor, Outdoor, Race Walking, or Marathon Championships or USA Olympic Team Selection in the same event in which the performance was attained:

1. Track and Field -

(a) During the current or four previous calendar years, earned an individual medal in track and field in an Olympic Games or in a World Athletics World Indoor or Outdoor Championship."

Respectfully, this rule cited here does not apply to this situation, if I'm reading it right. Being a world medalist does not grant you automatic entry into any USA championship race--only the "event in which the performance was attained". So this rule does not allow Mu to enter the 1500 at USAs officially because she's "world champ" in the 800.

Now, I'm not denying there is a great possibility there is another rule that would allow this, or even perhaps there's some behind-the-scenes stuff that would allow Mu to enter because she's world champ. But I'm not gonna read the who handbook and I don't know the inner workings of USATF. Anyone with knowledge who can shed light on this?

You are correct. The specific rule that you're talking about only refers to the exact event that someone won the World Championship in.

But USATF let's current world champions run other events if they want anyway. Not sure if it's a rule that is written somewhere else, or it's just an unwritten rule that they follow.

That is exactly why FastTuohy posted it, you are agreeing with the thing you think you are disagreeing with. There is only one misguided moran on this thread that keeps saying Mu is afforded some special privilege to run the 1500 because she is a world champion. There is no such rule. That misguided individual has spent all night upvoting their own nonsense replies and downvoting others because they literally have no life. It's probably the same mod that deleted all the other comments that violated no rules other than to sensibly and publicly disagree with their ignorance on the subject, exposing them to be the clown that they are.

What you are REALLY saying is that you disagree with her team's decision to enter Mu in the 1500. But your disagreement has no effect on what Mu and Kersee will be doing.

She was specifically asked if she had changed her training to focus more on the 1500, and she specifically said, in very clear words, that she has NOT changed her 800 training AT ALL.

Why would she do that? If Mu did somehow manage to run fast enough in the first round of the 1500, then she has to run another round. Which is exactly what she does NOT want to do.

Where is this supposed requirement for wild cards to compete at champs currently stated? It did exist in the past, but where is it stated for 2023?

Given that she outperformed expectations in New York, I'll predict she makes the final but finishes 10th. Just making the final would be an accomplishment and a step in the right direction.

Also possible that, after the effort it will take to make the final, she's a DNS because she sees the gap is large to the top US 1500m women.

How exactly did she outperform expectations? The only positive from her run was that she seemingly blew the field away by closing her last 200 in 28.6. However, as LRC rightfully points out in their front page article, Keely averaged 28.9 for all 4, 200s of her opener. Closing a 28.6 off a slow pace is one thing, doing so after 600 meters at Keely's pace is something entirely different. Mu's opener was "fine", but I would not say she outperformed anyone's expectations, I believe she massively underperformed and needs to step her game up.

You don't know what she wants to do or what her plans are. Using all caps does not change this fact. Convincing yourself that you know her mindset is bad enough, but going on a crusade to try to convince everyone else of this "fact" is downright lunatic. There are better ways to use your bad energy. Mu doesn't want to make the final in the 1500. She's only going to USA's because she has to run there in order to use her 800 free entrance to the World Championships. If USATF didn't force her to be there, she wouldn't go.

Which outcome would lead you to believe she's clean?

The challenge has been posed to prove such a rule exists for selection to 2023 Worlds.
