The "goes home devastated" joke is funny because it's intentionally over the top. That's the joke. It was ridiculous the first couple uses but now people use it tongue in cheek.
That may be but there are still those that like seeing others lose, and even get pleasure out of it, for some twisted reason.
I feel like since Fred Kerley's Olympics 2020, he's been pretty well liked. He also races a ton so he doesn't have instances of DNS a bunch of events. He's come out on top of recent drama / disputes because he just leaves it all on the track and dominates
