Thanks for clarifying! The wikipedia article didn't make that clear and I was still over a decade away from being born at the time.
As to Seb's close vs the true sprinters, I think I'd back Seb in a pure kick even against those with superior sprint PBs. Seb had the unique blend of speed and the aerobic capacity to access it for that final kick. The true 400/800 guys usually bust their ass the first 400 and then hold on, leaving very little kick because they know by the time they get to the final 100, they're going to be too gasses to use that sprint speed anyway.
