how about Besty Keever? 2:47!
how about Besty Keever? 2:47!
Have to take Probst off that list. To my knowledge, he hasn't run 2:24, although with him getting healthy again hopefully he'll run even faster than that in the near future. Also, I know he was there when VA Tech went there for break or camp, etc., but I don't think he ever spent any significant period of time there.
1 1 178 Brian Erb 35 M Greenville SC 15:30 5:00
2 1 997 BILL BALDWIN 33 M BREVARD NC 15:53 5:07
3 2 1002 COATES KENNERLY 33 M BREVARD NC 16:01 5:10
That is a serious ass pounding. Hasn't Brain always onwed wild Bill?
Laura (Madsen) Mykytok lived in Brevard for a while. Didn't do any marathons as far as I know, but may be the most accomplished runner ever to spend time there.
Bodnar has run 2:21:18 (1999, US Champs). The 2:22 was from Steamtown and its 12,954-foot vertical drop last year.
I imagine elly rono will eventually be there
does brain herb live there
Erb lives an hour south in Greenville, SC. A good training group there last year and some previous years as well. This year sould be good to.
Alexis ran under 4:00 minutes (I think it was 3:56?) at the maine distance festival and holds the school record. Before him Reginald held the school record at 4:00.
Here are a few times for your list.
During the summer of 1982 or 1983(can't remember) Brevard College won the individual and team NJCAA National Marathon Championships. Mike Peveto won in 2:27:15, Gerald Hutchinson and Jim Hickey finished third and fourth in 2:28:39. Although these times may find a home on your list I don't think that they are necessarily reflective of these individuals best times/effort. As I recall these guys were the only three runners willing to stick around during the summer and train for the marathon championship. I think I remember Mike traveling to Houston one weekend (no meet scheduled) to run the Houston Marathon (2:24ish). He returned after the weekend and continued to train with the team.
Mike, Gerald and Jim were members of at least one of the four (4) consecutive NJCAA XC team championships that Brevard College won.
were they all coached by rinker?
The guys before 1985 were coached by Norm Witek.
Rinker did coach Randy Ashley, Chad Newton, Rick Fuller and Jeff Campbell in the mid 90's.
Good group there in 1994-1996, especially when Brantley, Steve Taylor, Steve Spence, Howard Nippert all came in to train during the fall of 95 leading up to the marathon trials.
Randy, Chad and Bill are the top three marathoners in WNC
yeah, but Bill is a big jackass, running his mouth in the paper after the MB Marathon relay.
He might be fast (sort of) but he's still an ass.
What did he say?
Yes. You are right. Bill Baldwin is one of the top 3 marathoners in WNC.
For the first two miles...
He constantly goes out in 1:10 and then fades or drops out. He has never run a good marathon and even his 2:28 was after going out under 1:10.
He has not shown the discipline to be a good marathoner even though he has said to me and others in the area that he is a "marathon runner".
I think he is one of the better, more visible runners in this area, but I certainly would not call him a marathoner of any note. At that distance, in this area, he is certainly average given his other PR's.
ask Joe G when he is going to run a marathon
joe is coaching up at jmu right now so my bet is he's focusing on that and getting some solid training in. i wouldn't be surprised to see him run one in fall, if all goes well, and i hope it does! he's a good guy.
