BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Ed Beathea , who will take over as the Indiana Head Track and Field Coach beginning with the 2023-24 campaign, has named the first...
A few years ago the Lobos were in a dither about a badly overspent budget and were threatening to drop soccer and other non-revenues. Whether they did or not I don't know but it had to freak out several coaches and maybe Franklin felt far from secure.
Albuquerque became popular when the British distance team started altitude training there in place of Switz. They got several good recruiters to try and take advantage and the rest is history. The Transfer Tech rep materialized and they could get who they wanted. Not the kids from NY and CA but what did they care, it worked.

Wait until Vin sees all of UNM runners transfer to Louisville into his conference. He going to probably file a protest. He’s the Karen of the NCAA.
This will answer the question of whether runners were going there for altitude training or for him. Louisville isn’t exactly a running Mecca. Remind me how many Kenyans and other elites go to Louisville to train. Louisville seems like the place distance runners go to die.
Because NCAAwants MW schools to have Champs, Louisville got to host a few times I think. Before they got in to the BE i never thought they were interested in CC and that's carried over to the ACC.
I don't see most top students who are CC talents heading to UL. I mean approach won't change much from UNM other than he can't sell altitude any more.
I never looked at Franklin as a top coach but lets get real recruiting is THE key factor in any highly competitive program. If he and staff have mastered the talent procurement end of things he's going to make UL a tough team straight away.
I feel sorry for Albuquerque. even The locals don’t like it.
Thanks for your sympathy!
Sincerely, -local who loves it here
Albuquerque is arguably one the BEST places to train all year. Mild winters, warm but not hot summers, and an amazing fall season. The foothills sit at 6000ft and go up to 7000ft with awesome desert trails everywhere. They have a flat paved bike trail that runs 10 miles east/west just below the Sandia Mountains, perfect for easy runs and or quality Threshold/Lactate workouts. The Bosque trails (5000ft elevation) along the Rio Grande are also great for long runs.
This is a great gig for any coach who wants to build a strong distance program like Joe did.
