I'm curious--does anyone know the precise splits when Jim Ryun ran his WR 1:44.9 880 (about 1:44.2 for an 800) in 1966? I've seen it reported as 53.3/51.6 with a last 220 in 25.5.

Plays the piano in his spare time mostly self-taught and classic with Chopin.Speed.
With NIL why go pro if your an NCAA champ with remaining eligibility? one would think a few NIL deals would equate to the same amount of money as a running shoe brand sponsorship. it’s not like NBA or NFL money. I guess the shoe company could offer a longer deal and the same offer might not be available in the future, but I don’t always think going Pro is the right call in the current landscape of NIL for Olympic sport athletes.
he's taller than 5'8" for sure. 6'1" seems pretty accurate to me, having seen him in person. also closer to 170 than 145, too
I have met and shook hands with him (granted he was sitting in stands) and you are delusional. 5'9" 150 is about right.
i don't doubt you. not that any of this matters very much for him. whatever his actual stature is seems to be working very well for him. i just don't appreciate being called delusional. i'm 5'8" and i seem to remember that he was distinctly taller than me in person. definitely a bit taller than i was expecting him to be having not seen him in person before.
i messaged him on instagram, only half expecting a response. but, the NCAA champ is also a super nice guy, and he chose to supply me with the answers to my random query.
here's the truth. unless, of course, you think he's either lying or confused about his own body. i guess that's possible too... haha
i attached the link to a screenshot of his response, for the integrity of my argument.
Awesome race from Sumner. Also gotta give some credit to Coach Henner as an 800 coach. He coached Isaiah Jewett at USC when he had his breakout season and now Sumner. He kinda flies under the radar but he’s been around a while and has a pretty impressive track record.
GIven his progression and age (still a teenager), and that he seems to have a good head on his shoulders, I expect him to go sub 1:42 someday. I have never thought that before about an American 800 meter runner.
How many other Americans can run 1:44 low, let alone with a negative split?
I can only think of a handful of Americans in the last 10 years who I’m positive could negative split 1:44. Of that handful, I think only Brazier, Murphy, and Symmonds could’ve done it 53-51. Maybe Solomon too.
This is a crazy good run. I would not be surprised to see 1:43.x this year.

Hopefully. Similar upside to Brazier in some aspects.
Brazier ran 1:43.55 at age 19 & 2 months. Will is 19 & 8 months. A lot of it will depend on health (see Brazier).
Why does size matter? Coe and Kipketer were tiny when they ran 1:41s
It doesn’t matter if he becomes a 1:41 guy though it did hinder Coe. If he is in the 1:43 range it’s quite physical out there, but again I think people took my concern as far more grave than I intended it to be. I have the same concern with Noah Kibet, Brandon Miller and even Slimane Moula. Championship 800s get very physical and you have to defend your space and stay on course through the bumping/elbows. I am complimenting the rest of what he brings to the table because from a racing standpoint the only thing we have to see is how he manages a pro race that goes out in 50-51. His MO has been to not go super-hard the first lap, but that might just be a smart move in college where frequently guys don’t hold on well.
