What about the doping factor? It is possible that Bobby is planning on doping Athing Mu so that she could be an 800/1500 medal threat. Obviously she is a gold medalist already at 800m. If he dopes and trains her to 3:57 shape, which may be possible, in a championship race she is dangerous. I am not sure what he has in mind but one cannot rule out something rather ambitious and calculating which would apparently surprise some of you.
What you won’t see is Mu and McLauglin-Levrone racing each other over 400 meters, a showdown Olympic champion Michael Johnson, among others, has said they would most like to see.

If the move of Athing to 1500m is a long term thing so Sydney can run the 400m unbothered... What an enormous waste.
Amen to that. Who’s career is he most interested in? His or the athletes? To take someone out of one of their marquee events to avoid racing a teammate. Doesn’t make sense, unless I am totally missing something.

Can't believe Athing is putting up with a coach who is keeping her away from the 400m because he doesn't want her to race her teammate.
One of the strangest things I have seen on this board. Mu is already strong enough for the 800M, she needs to run in the 48s for 400M and then we may possibly see a 1:54 for 800M.
There is zero chance she will medal in the 1500M, zero. She would have to improve to the 3:55-3:56 range, at least, in the next year, I am not sure that is possible.
I think Mu has a better shot at medaling in the 200m than the 1500

I could do this workout in high school, actually my best average for this workout was 62.3. My 1500m PR was 4:05 and I was a better endurance runner than middle distance runner. I think she'd have to average much faster for 8 x 400 before I'm seeing her under 4:00.
Mu ran 18:30 for 5000m XC in high school. This result makes me a little skeptical that she can work up to a world-class 1500m.
Not all the top US 1500 runners excelled at the national level at XC in high school. For one example, looking at Milesplit stats, Sinclaire Johnson ran 18:03. Mu didn’t run for her high school either. She ran AAU and focused mostly on 400 and 800. That 5k she ran was probably her long run for the week.
