We have merged two threads into 1 as we like to have 1 thread per topic. We don't need a thread on how she's running the 10,000 and then another on how she did. Here is a video of her on the final lap:
I doubt this is a record attempt. I bet Tuohy just runs to win and not for time. Vestri has a 32:08. It's more a question of if Vestri (or someone else) tries to push the pace.
My guess is this will be amazingly slow. State has Quarzo and Howlett and Vestri has Roark etc, but no one really has incentive to make this fast. Tuohy can just cruise behind leader and win from 600 out. Good first experience for kt at 10k on track. 25 laps on track is often a mental challenge. I guess 33:xx for the win.
NC st has 9 in the 5k, including Bush, Chmiel and Hays fresh. No Starliper?
Katelyn will not be running the 5k. She will be pacing her teammates in the 10k. I'm assuming she will go for the win after her pacing duties, but we'll have to see how the race plays out. Marlee is done, due to injury again.
Thanks for update, sad to hear about Starliper. Let's see 32:59 would be a good goal for Quarzo/Howlett. That would be 16:30 split if 'cuse let's the pack lead. Wonder how deep into race pacing will go?
So Touhy listed in 5k as backup for false start in 10k.
Agreed. The 10000m is a way to build strength for the 5000m.
Only if she can do a 71 second pace for first or rather second half…
Based on a half-century or so in The Sport, I can say this is simply not true.
BITD this was one of Lydiard's go-tos: If you kept a steady pace in a race, but it just wasn't fast enough, your next race would be under the distance; if you were running well in a race but then fell off in the later stages, the next race would be over the distance.
A 10,000 absolutely builds strength in the 5,000 for most (different things work for different people), regardless of whether or not it mimics a runner's specific 5,000 pace at any point.
Hassan ran a 1.56 800m in 2016. IF KT ever gets to that level, then any reference to Hassan might be justified, but certainly isn't now - typical US overhype.
Even a slowpoke like GDS has run 1.58.7 (off a 400m PR of 59). KT should invest some time in getting faster while she is still young and has that capacity, not doing a 10km TR at conference. The girl is fit, a fast 800m should not take much out of her. Frankly I would be more impressed with her breaking 2 minutes at this point, than breaking 15 minutes.
The nicknames is no different than calling some guy that crushes the pick-up basketball games at the local playground the "Maple Street Jordan". No one actually means the guy is as good as Jordan, simply that he is the best player at the games at Maple Street Park and his style of play may have some similarities to Jordan. In reality he is probably 6'2" and can throw down a decent dunk once in a while if there are no defenders. He is in no way comparable to Jordan, and no one actually thinks he is.
It's important to recognize that no athlete, no matter how talented, is immune to setbacks and challenges. It is unfair to expect any athlete to continuously perform at an otherworldly level without encountering any obstacles along the way.
It makes sense to me. She is still in training for USATF Nationals. The 10,000 will make her have to work harder in the 5000, sort of like a voluntary handicap. Otherwise the 5000 would just be a jog for her, which would be of no benefit conditioning-wise.
This will not be the first hard 6 mile run she's done, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Last 3 winning times were:
2022: 32:56 2021: 32:45 2020: covid 2019: 33:30
How hard do you expect these times to be for a 15:03 5K runner? She will win, running as conservatively as she needs to, and maximize the points for her team.
She is a college runner, on a college team, and has always run what the team needs while chasing records outside of championship races.

heh shelbs, when can you race again? Can you believe those lrs guys are making t-shirt money off your carne asada?
Thanks for acc history. I'm not sure the pack is trying to max out points at acc. To max out they would have had Chmiel or Hays also in 10k and Bush in 1500. It looks more like they are doing best for each individual and getting ready for nationals. They can't win acc, but they can win national 'program of the year' if they stay within 15 places of Arkansas. ie. Arkansas #3, NC st #18 would do it.

Sad to hear this about Starliper.... has to just be frustrating as all for her.
I would have preferred that she run the 800m at conference. Develop her speed reserve for 1500m. that is what she lacks. The 10000m, other than a tempo run, makes no sense to me, at least for her anyway.
Points for the team.
Exactly. All she has to do is jog the race and blow everyone away in the final k.

So you are predicting her to run about 4 minutes slower than the world record. And some of you guys are suggesting she will soon dominate on the professional circuit? LOL.
