She overreacted. If I'm out and some woman starts to pleasure themselves in front of me I just shrug and move on. Seems had she done the same shed have 2 unbroken legs.
I think these public masturbates are really weird but I've walked into men's room to old men doing it at a urinal and thought whatever weirdo. I didn't take it as an assault.
If you read the second article that was linked to on page one of this discussion, it was disclosed that the perpetrator has been doing this to several women in that area, over a year or more, and according to one of the charges that he still faces, a child was unfortunately involved. Only through the concerted, determination of the women involved was he caught. They grouped together and was able to track him down, but it took a while and a lot of effort.
Frankly, that is the story. The determination of these women to put in this kind of effort and work together for the good of themselves and the community is exemplary, and paid off.
The perpetrator still faces additional charges, btw.
EDIT: Here is an excerpt from the article describing the group of women who had been accosted banding together and finding the perpetrator:
"Isaak (the woman who was attached) said she looked for other possible victims on the NextDoor app. “Over the course of about three or four months, [the survivors] were able to link him to additional attacks, identify his vehicle, take a picture of the vehicle, pull images off of Ring doorbell, and then eventually, because women were aware of that, begin to memorize his license plate and take pictures of the perpetrator,” McKay said. “They then developed a flyer that had an image of the perpetrator, as well as an image of his car. And then they were able to create a map that identified all the different locations for incidents that had occurred.”"
Also, the article says her attack lasted 7 minutes, not 7 miles. The NY Post article must have been incorrect in its reporting (what a surprise!).
EDIT: This is the article that explains the background:
He's really just silly. In these scenarios I reverse the sexes and see if I would find it problematic the other way around. I just laughed at a serial female masturbator jumping out in front of men and doing this in public. It really is silly either way, nothing to run away from, just ignore it.

Not really.
You may think that a guys reaction would be to dismiss it, but I think you would be feeling very different if it actually was happening to you. And I say that because I would think the same except that I (a guy) was recently on the receiving end of unwanted romantic and sexual advances in the workplace and when it happens to you over a period of time, it's different than you might have thought.
It got very unpleasant and hard to ignore and hard to forget. And it wasn't anything as bad as those women in Austin had to deal with. But it did bother me and I can move in but it was - and is - emotionally distressing.
So don't be so sure. And consider that it isn't a one-off event. It's something that persists, just like the perpetrator in Austin was continuing to inflict his abuse on the group of runners there.
Rojo, you omitted the part about the perpetrator already serving 6 months of house arrest prior to the probation sentence. "Rios (the perpetrator) was on house arrest for six months prior to being on probation now, according to Vela (Rios’ attorney)."
That IS a big deal! As a repeat offender, he should have had a less lenient sentence.

A predator who broke a woman’s leg in four places while chasing after her and masturbating has been let off with probation by an ultra-liberal district attorney in Austin, Texas.
Antonio Rios — who also is facing numerous indecent exposure charges, including exposing himself to a child — is free to roam the streets despite copping to aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.
His sentence of 10 years of probation is too soft, according to Lynn Isaak, the Austin engineer he attacked while she was jogging in her neighborhood.
During the 2021 ambush, Isaak told The Post, she tried to outrun Rios for seven miles and fight him off, but claimed he fed off her fear, fondling himself as she tried to escape.
The felon was eventually scared off by a neighbor, but the ordeal left her without the ability to walk for four months as her leg was shattered, and she will eventually need to replace her entire knee.
My home state too and glad I don't live in woke Austin. Details in this don't add up. She was in her neighborhood running and he chased her for 7 miles while pleasuring himself? So there was no one else in the neighborhood or at a gas station or anywhere who could help her? He was violent enough that shattered her leg but also let her run for 7 miles while pleasuring himself? Which giver her age would probably be an hour? It sounds like he had a history. But maybe the details in this article weren't right or the details surrounding this incident weren't solid enough to put him away.

Once again, it was 7 minutes and not 7 miles. I’m guessing the misstatement was deliberate on the Post’s part.

It's being reported by "Running's Front Page" as 7 miles. Surely a publication with the journalistic standards of LetsRun would get the distance right.
This is a hell of a story, truth be told, but I am afraid that the site owner's missed the real value here. They pitched it as a story about a light sentence, with no shortage of political left/right overtones (thanks to the NY Post coverage, not surprisingly).
The really amazing story is that a group of runners were being threatened and in some cases attacked, and through their determination and sense of decency and justice, were able to locate, identify, and have the culprit arrested, thereby protecting themselves and their community from this repeat, serial offender. How cool is that? Women runners who are out there in the community most every day watching out for each other and the their community!
What a story! And we all know that runners are the kind of determined individuals to pull this off. Clearly, we as runners are out in our neighborhoods, we care about keeping them and ourselves safe, we look out for eachother, and we have the wherewithall to do something about it.
Just read some of the excerpts from the KXAN article linked to earlier:
"Nearly a dozen other women across the Austin area claim he preyed on them as well for nearly half a year before he got caught... Isaak (the victim) said she looked for other possible victims on the NextDoor app. And then they were able to create a map that identified all the different locations for incidents that had occurred.” Map from survivors, pinpointing where attacks were happening. (Photo by: ‘Not Today’ Uncooperative nonprofit campaign. The group of women began connecting the dots. At least 10, who became victims while out jogging, walking their dogs or even with their children, according to McKay."
Bravo! What a bunch of hard@ss heroes.
How can we focus on some possibly light sentence and ignore the heroism of these women in our running community?

So when a guy 6" taller than you with about 30lbs more of muscle (average man versus woman) is chasing and commenting on how cute your a*a is you as you walk away, you are going to be laughing? I sort of doubt it...

Not to mention that in addition to exposing himself, he did physically attack her and the attack lasted 7 whole minutes. The attack resulted in her leg being broken in four places. The injury put her in crutches for four months. And all we can focus on his what the perv was doing with his willy? Seriously?!

Calm down bro. I'm sorry I read the article and the thread title correctly. Other articles reporting she was attacked for 7 minutes before someone helped her. Not chased for seven minutes or seven miles. Makes a lot more sense now. Apparently there's more than 10 different women with allegations against him and he's still on the street. At what point do Progressives realize the insanity of their policies. At least Austin convicted the guy who shot a BLM rioters pointing an assault weapon at him after the DA hid evidence from the defense. Well done.

It seemed obvious to me that it wasn’t seven miles but the mistake is funny and not offensive.
The NY Post article is half baked and I don’t see how any conclusions can be drawn from it. For example, how did he break the jogger’s leg and why does she need a knee replacement?
