She's ranked 12th in the world right now, so maybe she can get in based on ranking?
I believe even the rankings have to be during that window of time. I could be incorrect on that. She hasn’t raced a 5000 during that window yet.
The rankings are final on Aug 2 so wherever she is then I believe will count. I presume (again not sure) that if Cranny wins USATF she has the ranking.
Because the 10k entry standards are so tough and the event is before the 5k, I think we will see everyone pushing for 14:57 at this meet and opting for 5k only at USATF, not doubling with the 10k.
Annie Rodenfels just beat Kelati 15:12 to 15:13 at BAA 5k, and was top American finisher. Just got back from altitude, heading back up next week. She is targeting sub 15 for the Sound Running race, may do 5k at USATF.
Afte last night, this thread title should be renamed. Insult to Infeld (WC Bronze) and Andrews (3:59). Besides, the story of the night is going to be the performance of high schooler Amy Bunnage from Australia. She has a possibility of winning her race. Could we have the first freshman female NCAA Cross Country Champion this fall? Best freshman performance I am tracking is Amy Skieresz who took second for Arizona many years ago.
What about that time she ran 8:35 indoors at Millrose, beating pros like Elise Cranny (2:00/3:59/14:33/30:16, Olympian, US national champion) and Courtney Wayment (Team USA for Eugene)? Or is that not elite enough?

Insult? When was the last time Andrews ran anything close to a 4 flat? That was one race that was part of her so-called... ahem, "breakthrough". Two years ago! And BTW this post is about the 5K not the 1500.

Exactly right. Andrews hasn't won any kind of championships..NCAA, USA etc, so certainly ridiculous to call it an insult. Tuohy has done more at her age. However, not sure why you think Bunnage would win this race. She just ran a 15:31 the other week. Sorry, but that won't be a winning time at the Sound running race.

There are TWO 5k races that day. The poster you responded to said that Brunnage could win "her race" meaning the second of the two 5k races.
So yes, Brunnage has a decent shot at winning her race.

Best Performance Scores from Indoors 2023:
Andrews: 1216 (Millrose Mile)
Tuohy: 1214 (Millrose 3000m)
Infeld: 1178 (5000m at BU)
So actually Tuohy and Andrews perfectly valid to put in the same ballpark, especially over a longer distance. Despite Infeld having not as strong a year so far in 2023, the fact she is the only one of the three to have made a US outdoor team let alone is a world finalist means she deserves to be in the same conversation.
Tuohy v Andrews v Infeld seems a totally fair way to describe the race.

We're just going to agree to disagree on this one. I see no reason to think she meant anything other than closing in 4:30 off of a pace like last years. She was within a second of the lead at 3400m. The qualifiers closed in 4:26, Tuohy closed in 4:45. It seems extremely likely to me that she is referring to this race when talking about needing to be able to close in 4:30.
I'm not trying to doubt her abilities or anything like that. Ive been one of the biggest Tuohy fans on this board im just trying to be realistic in what can be achieved in 2023. A) if Monson/Schweizer & crew are trying to double then the pace will definitely not be below 15 flat if they can help it.
Thinking she can close in 4:30 off of a 9 flat 3k pace (which was the only point i initially responded to) at this point in her trajectory is way too far imo. If she can run 14:40 by July it will be off of a perfectly paced race like Dr Sander & Millrose were.
That’s what makes discussing it so much fun. Differing view points, differing reasoning.
I believe she’ll run 14:40 at this race. Off of a perfectly paced race. As you say. This is the exact scenario.
9:00 for 3,000 is now a essentially a brisk run for Tuohy. I don’t believe it’s going to be that big of a stretch to believe she can maintain that essential jog until 3,341 meters and then turn it on for her real race (if even within herself psychologically, this is the race), with 1,609 to go to close in 4:30.
Dude your fixating on one off the cuff remark! Last year was a really slow tactical national qualifier that was closed by the winners in about a 4:30 mile ...
She was just saying that It would be good to be able to hang with those kind of runners if that same race happens again
She wasn't saying that she was planning on closing a fast 5K with a 4:30 mile... 430 mile is 1400 5k pace...
Also her indoor 3K was impressive but she just ran a pretty slow 1500 considering she had a pacer and good competition...
Probably more like 1502 with a 450 mile close... Doubt she is anywhere close to 1440 and 430.... 1457 to 1505 seems more likely... And what's the NCAA record everyone throws out different times???
